Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is definitely the one to aim for due to its vast recognition. However, it requires you to furnish your detailed experience and referees. And yes, PMI, the issuing body does conduct audits. Cheats are barred from further attempts to be certified.

Assuming that you are residing in Singapore as this is Yahoo! for Singapore, I would suggest that you get in touch with Knowledge Method (http://www.knowledgemethod.com/) which specializes in PMP certification.

If you are in Singapore, South-east Asia or India, you could also consider SCS's Certified IT Project Manager (CITPM) certifications. Passed recipients will be conferred either Associate, CITPM or Senior. More info is available at http://www.scs.org.sg/CITPM_abt.php. Exams are conducted only twice a year.

Both PMP and CITPM requires testimonials of previous experience, thus require referees. For those whose referees might not be contactable and/or who would not want to wait for the infrequent exams as in CITPM, they might consider CompTIA Project+.

Some says CompTIA Project+ is for entry-level. However, a scrutiny at the syllabus might suggest otherwise. Therefore, to make sure that your exam fees are not wasted, you might consider putting in the same effort for CompTIA Project+ as you would if you were taking other certifications.

Hi, it actually depends on the work experience that you have. If you have at least 4500 hours of work experience in assisting or directing a project you can go for Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Though, if you have less or no experience in Project management, you can go for an entry level certification CAPM.

I would prefer APM certification if you based in UK.

APM has it's FIVE Dimensions of Professionalism and are designed to meet your needs throughout your career.

Introductory Certificate: The APM Project Fundamentals Qualification ( SCQF Level 6): for a fundamental awareness of project management terminology.

APMP: The APM Project Management Qualification (IPMA Level D, SCQF Level 7): for people with some project management experience. There is a specifically designed route to APMP for current PRINCE2 Practitioners.

Practitioner Qualification (IPMA Level C): a practical assessment of project management skills.

APM Project Risk Management Certificates: APM offers level one and level two certificates for project and programme managers involved in project risk assessment in any way.

This leads to RPP, that is Registered project professional.

Probably the most recognized is the Project Management Professional certificate offered by www.pmi.org.

Please remember that the training and certificate will be a benefit but companies/employers want to see actual experience and successful project management.

To achieve PMP certification, each candidate must satisfy all educational and experiential requirements established by PMI, agree to adhere to a code of professional conduct, and must demonstrate an acceptable and valid level of understanding and knowledge of project management. The PMP certification examination tests this knowledge. PMP-certified professionals must also demonstrate ongoing professional commitment to the project management field by satisfying PMI continuing certification requirements program.
