This is a question that my boyfriend and I were debating over last night. If you were given $1 million, would you give up seven years of your life in prison. That's about $142,000 a year to stay in jail.

I believe the first issue raise is what is termed statutory rape. Statutory rape is a strict liability crime meaning the act happened and therefore the crime was committed. They police and the District Attorney do not need to prove she gave consent or her parents gave permission. It is completely irrelevant to the charge. Age of consent varies from state to state. For some states it is 17 and for other it is earlier. Second question in regard to being pulled over. At 2 AM - 4AM very few people are out at that time who are not 'up to something' So cops will be more inclined to pull someone over if they suspect they are not on there way home from the library after a long night of studying. Provided you were not doing anything illegal a cop cannot give you a ticket just because he is bored looking for something fun to do. In regard to your third question regarding smoke in your car. Depends on what type of item your are smoking. If you are talking about cigarettes then yes but if you are talking about cannabis absolutely illegal regardless if you are in your car. Finally reading your posting it seems there is more going on that what you are saying and it reads as though some of it illegal. My advice for you would be to either change or get a good lawyer as you most likely be heading to jail.

The majority of people answering this question have answered that they would not. I too stand in solidarity amongst them.

For the few that say they would, I wonder how do they plan of staying current with the changes of current life? If you currently have a job, don't you feel that it too will change in 7 years? How will you adapt to the 'new world' after having been secluded from it for 7 whole years? Sure, you might have $1 million in hand, but as they say, "easy come, easy go". I sure hope that the people saying that they would trade money for freedom do have a plan with how to spend their time. Peeing in a silver toilet and being told what to do, when to do it, and how to do it does appeal to many people--especially for a duration of 7 years. ...But, I could be wrong.

Hope this helps. Thank you for the insightful question. Freedom is precious, and we don't know of its value until it's taken from us.

I think I would. I'm 20 and have no children or bills. I figured by the time I was 27 I'd be a millionaire anyway so bein in jail would be a full, full time job. $142, 000 a year to do what someone tells me. I'm cool with that, the job I have now is damn near jail so I'll take it. I'm taking into consideration the fact that I don't interact with many people anyway so the people that are special to me can come and visit me. Plus I haven't done anything so the C.O.'s would be a liitle more lenient with me. Mind my own business and stick to myself, that's what I do anyway so... To sum it up I'd take it as long as I get it all and I'm guaranteed to get ALL of the money, who knows maybe I'd get out early for good behavior.

No, because I would be really miserable in that 7 years. And: if I applied myself and got a great job, I could make 1 million without having to go to jail.

heck yeah! i have done the equivilent of 11/2 years in jail already in my life and its not really all as bad as people would think. its accually kinda relaxing in a way. i would just start up a store and work out all the time. that way when my time was up i would not only have a million dollars but i would be in good shape too. then just move to a nice beach and invest alittle cash in realestate and put the rest in the bank to collect interest. i would be able to pretty much retire at 28. that would be awlsome!

No, 1 million dollars would not even begin to cover to pain and the problem that you would get from begin in jail that long or and time that would be served.
Jail time is not the thing that you or your boyfriend could handle in your life.

No I would not. I would rather be poor and happy and free on a consistent bases, then miserable for 7 years straight. Hell, I could be diagnosed with cancer and live for only 6 months after I get out ya know!

My answer would be no. Even if you were incarecated you wouldnt be able to spend that money and no amount of personal sufferage is worth 1 million dollars. I would think of all the people i wouldnt see and the things i would miss out on, its not worth it.

No.You would lose 7 years of your life and miss out on family and friends who might need you, it is not worth the money. Freedom is not a dollar sign people are dying for their freedom and you want to give it away for money.

No not like that. I'd rather try to rob a bank that way you can get the money and have a 50/50 chance of staying free.
