ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! You do not have to buy $125.00 tennis shoes for your son. OR buy $75.00 jeans for your son to look "cool". If your son wants those expensive brands, he can get a job and use his own money to pay for stuff like that. Take your son to ROSS or TJ max. They have name brand stuff there for cheap. Your talking $75.00 Jeans for $12.-$18.00. I don't know why kids now a days think that money just grows on trees. I never asked my mom and dad to buy me $75.00 jeans. You can go to wal-mart and buy 2 pairs of jeans for that price. They have some really nice jeans there too. If your son wants the name brand jeans and shoes, the best time to shop is after the holidays. A lot of places are trying to get rid of the old stuff to make way for the new. They usually have all their 75% off sales then. I live in California and in my town we have Outlets. That is the best time to go shoping for sales.
Good Luck!

Yeah it does matter. It shows how cultually aware you are. You don't want to appear as "socially inept". How you dress can not only effect who your friends are (i.e. goth, punk, emo), but the way that other people (sometimes important people... cough*universities*cough) look at you.
But jeans shouldn't be $75 dollars... More around $50.
And $125 tennis shoes? Gimme a break. Cool sneakers should only cost $50-$75. $125 sneaks are for LeBron James and Vince Vaughn... NOT your son.

I didn't get the "cool stuff" when I was a teenager.. I got what my dad could afford, and I was no worse off than any other kid that had the "cool" clothes.
I don't see anything wrong with getting something exspensive once in awhile for your kid, but to have a whole wardrobe of name brand stuff, if you can't afford it is crazy..
come to a comprimise with him.. either the exspensive tennis shoes or the exspensive jeans!

ok..first to be cool u gotta have your own style and if the clothes you need cost like WOW, change style or you could still have the same style with cheaper clothes..and besides clothes don't make you coolest person at school (I hope that you are aware that I'm talking bout your son). And anyways just buy him good looking clothes, well actually give him the money(but not too much) and let him buy the clothes.
P.S i just added that part because my mother buys clothes that are SO NOT my taste.

Ok here is how my parents handled that situation....
When i got to where i wanted something "extra" like that where it went over the cost of what they thought it should be, i had to come up with the money for it.
This started basically when i was like 13yo and wanted certain types of things that fit my "style" or my idea of "cool".
So i hadda get jobs and save up money for the stuff like that which i wanted.
I moved outta my house at 17yo so at that age I hadda get all my own stuff anyhow.
So u should tell your 17yo kid that he needs to support his own COOL and stand on his own feet too. And most places any 17yo kid can get a job.
And as for really mattering what kinda jeans u wear to school...probably not, but even still (and I'm almost 19yo) I like to have stuff i think is cool lookin.

Nope. if he can't be cool because of who he is, then is it really worth it? get him some normal jeans, wash them a lot, let him go play football in the back yard or whatever in them, then they look like the $50 ones. as for the shoes..... tell him to get a job? make him pay half? i don't know... that's the only thing i really spend that much on...

i think that you shouldn't have to wear certain clothes to be "cool" but lots of other teens feel differently (however i'm homeschooled) try to find jeans or shoes that look similar but are cheaper. or give him the budget 'this is how much you can spend on clothes or school supplies' that will help him to apreciate the cost and maybe he will realise that even if it looks nice, and you really like it, if it costs too much you just cant have it. hope that helps!

Well, at my school, we have uniform so it doesn't really matter that much. But you need to tell your son that $125 shoes don't make him cool...they make him a fool!
Bribe him. Tell him that you'll buy the cheaper clothes and save the money to get him an mp3 player.
My mom just flat out refuses to buy me and my sister clothes that are that expensive..
If youre really desperate, buy them on sale!
