We all know, of course, that Republicans outnumber Democrats by a 5:1 margin in the military according to the Liberal Militarytimes.com. We also know that Republicans tend to be real men and Liberal men tend to be effeminate. We also know that the Iraq War has had unusually low casualty rates--lowest of any American ground war. And, finally, we know that 65,000 died in Vietnam, nearly 20 times that in Iraq, and that there were many Democrats in the Vietnam War due to the draft.
So, if Dems were fighting in Iraq, how many soldiers would we have lost? I say it would be 5 to 6 times more--right? Around 20,000 to 25,000 instead of 3,500.

You make some very good and valid points. The fact that our armed forces are volunteer leads to the inescapable fact that conservatives far outnumber libs in the armed forces.

Your question is a slap in the face of our soldiers who are Democrats. The war in Vietnam can not be compared to the war in Iraq, two entirely different situations. The war zones have absolutely nothing in common which has nothing to do with political affiliation and actually, you really ticked me off.
Go read a book about Vietnam and get your inflammatory facts straight.

I don't think it's necessarily fair to compare the two based on the different time periods in which both wars were/are being fought. And either way - Dem or Republican, 3,846 brothers, fathers, husbands, boyfriends, uncles, nephews, cousins, sons, mothers, sisters, aunts, girlfriends, nieces, and wives lost is no small number to be throwing around casually. Have some respect for those who are giving their all so you can sit here and talk trash.

It's sad that someone apparently intelligent when it comes to the area of statistics and probability can turn into a blithering idiot when it comes to politics. Unless the politics part is just an act. I would hope that was the case. The alternative is that person really is as petty and mean spirited as they seem. Again, sad.

Sorry to disagree with you Kim, but I think it would be about the same. Currently the enlisted democratic soldiers are VOLUNTEERS who are fighting for our freedom. Kudos to them. Now, if there were a draft.............Canada would have an illegal immigration problem like we do.

I was in Desert Storm. The breakdown then was 60-40 Republican and reflected the country at the time. I would doubt seriously any statistics that were grossly out of whack with the polling of the country as a whole.

Well Ma'am, I don't think so. I served for 24 years, fought in Desert Storm, OIF3 and Bosnia.
I find your insinuations inaccurate, vile and small-minded. Here's to hoping you are never put in charge of any Soldiers in a combat situation. Judging by your posts, you don't possess the mental agility necessary to lead troops. Have a nice day.

God you must be stupid. I'm a former Marine, a left leaning independent, and a current Police Officer. The reason casualty rates were higher in Vietnam is that we were fighting a real army. Not to mention our servicemembers had rifles that wouldn't work. Before you go spouting off you should check your history and see what really has happened in the past.

I'd guess a lot fewer actually, since liberals tend to be much smarter than conservatives. The macho manly men republicans are much more likely to piss off insurgents and make themselves targets too.
