i burn about one large yankee candle jar a month in my bedroom. after 3 years of buildup, i want to eliminate the soot buildup on the walls and ceiling. i tried a moist mr clean magic eraser, but it mostly smeared the soot around. i need help asap! only soy candles in the future!!!

I would suggest getting a candle warmer. This way there won't be any soot and your candle will last a lot longer.
Try washing your walls with dawn dishliquid. Clean your carpet with Tide. Hope this helps.

You were on the right track with the Mr Clean eraser but the trick I found is take a clean dry rag and wipe behind the eraser. My husband and I love candles and had the same problem, the erasers work fantastically you just have to wipe it with a clean cloth, continue to rub with the eraser until soot is gone.

Have you tried Dawn dish washing liquid? It cuts through all kinds of grease. It probably has some candle wax in it because it was so close to the ceiling. You can use things like Goo Be Gone or Acetate, but you will probably have to paint the spot again after cleaning. Good Luck!

I have to say your only option is to paint the room.
In the future dont count on just any soy candle fixing your soot problem. The cleanest candle on the market is a Mia Bellas candles.

If the other suggestions don't work you're going to have to repaint. You have to paint over the soot with an oil base primer then you can finish with a latex paint. If you try to cover with just the latex, the soot will smear into the latex paint.

I would use Simple Green dilute in water. Use a cleaning towel. Wring out the cleaning towel as much as possible leaving the cleaning rag or towel just damp then wipe down your walls and ceilings. I do this in my own homes on the walls when the dogs rub up against the wall sometimes they leave the wall dirty. Simple Green is a good degreaser it is non toxic and you can get it most stores. I use this product in my own home. I clean office and homes and use Simple Green too.

That's why I stopped buying Yankee. I had to repaint the affected area after trying all kinds of cleaners.

I can suggest sugar soap to wash your wall´s , you can find this in any paint store.
