What flowers would be easiest to plant and maintain in my yard? Have I waited too late in the year to plant?

This is my first time gardening so I need extra help. I live in Alabama so its getting very hot and humid with very little rain.

If you own, the best plants are perennials (come back every year). for AL, try purple coneflower, Black-eyed Susans, and coreopsis (lots of different kinds)...also hostas for shade. Lilies are a good choice, too, but they want a little more water. Hardiest are daylilies, then Oriental (fragrant) andAsiatic. It's not too late if your garden centers still are selling these. If you rent, try annuals like impatiens and coleus. Marigolds will help keep bugs away. You might want to try vegetables (like tomatos and peppers) in containers because they love water and heat.

one of my favourite plants to recommend for beginners is the 'Obedience plant'...Physostegia. It has great foliage, and doesn't bloom til late summer. Really nice tall spikes of light purple/pink trumpet shaped flowers. It's good for beginners because it will tell you by it's 'posture' when it needs water and after you water, it perks up in just a few hours. It also spreads like crazy so it will take up alot of space within a few years. Also try any of the perennial grasses available right now. they usually like hot weather. my other recommendation is to ask a locally owned nursery....find someone who just 'looks' like a gardener....you know the type...usually tan with a straw hat on..and ask them....real gardeners will talk to you forever about planting....good luck

i think the answer really depends on what type of soil you have, the ammount of rain you get, and the temperatures. i would definately try to get all these answers and then look online for some help.

I would suggest roses . they love full sun and water with proper drainage . I would also like to add that you need to put some coffee grounds at the base of the bush . good luck and happy gardening .
