Two possibilities exist on the definition of a Dreadnought.

1. Old battleships
2. Large bodied acoustic guitars

I'm unclear what WH 40K represents.

In the Warhammer 40k universe, a Dreadnought is a human warrior who was on the brink of death, but was proven worthy enough to be permanently fused into a metal machine in order to continue fighting for the Emperor.
The Dreadnought is a powerful unit on two legs armed for both long and short range combat. Though it started as a human invention, there are now also Chaos and Ork equivalents.
