Sometimes when I hear people from the U.S.A. talk about how free their country is, I really wonder. It's no more free than where I am. Not only that but freedom is at it's most important level a state of mind. However, that being said, I'll start the list with a couple of observations:

- Americans aren't legally allowed to drink alcohol until 21, although most people around the world can legally do this years earlier.

- Americans aren't free to live their lives knowing that most people around them don't have the right to own a gun.

Can you help add to the list?

Thank you.

In the US you have the freedom to criticize the government, unless you sound like a terrorist to someone who might be anal retentive.

If you are a teacher working for the public school system, you are a mandatory member of a radical teacher's union a.k.a. NEA.
If you are accused of a crime related to sexual misconduct, and you are a male, you must be very wealthy to not have to go to jail, and to get off relatively scott free...regardless of guilt or not...because they don't investigate facts but take everything on hearsay. The accused has more weight in his favor if he is filthy rich.
If you are interrogated by the police, the police do not try to find out the truth regarding the situation, they only try to force you to admit to doing the crime that you are being accused of...unlike the interrogations performed by the US Army...in which we try to find the facts in order to prevent deaths of our own people. Also, the police don't have to follow proper procedures like video or audio recordings of the interrogations...but can submit entire reports based on short hand notes, hours later. It would not be so bad, except the police are subject to bias and can remember things to fit their needs...like making arrests to meet quotas and to look good for their retirement.
If you want to start a business, you must pay for licenses and a whole bunch of other fees before you can even start. Then once you have started, be prepared for law suits by the city or county because you have done something illegal without even knowing it.
If you have been convicted of a crime, regardless of the nature, and regardless of your guilt, you will not have the right to vote, you lose about 9 of your constitutional rights as a human being and citizen...in essence you are reduced in status to a 4th class citizen.
The Constitution on paper guarantees us innocence until proven guilty in a court of law...if that was so, then why are there so many people languishing in jails prior to their trials simply because they are too poor to afford an attorney and pay bail? In essence this becomes like a debtor's prison system...the low income people can get free legal defense...public defenders don't care about justice...you're guilty in their eyes too. The standard quip "take the deal you're looking at 32 years in prison". Without even knowing anything about you or your case.

The wealthy can speak and the government listens. The poor can speak, and the government inserts it's own thoughts instead of what the poor have said. The poor are not considered intelligent enough to know what their needs are. I am one of the poor. This nation's legal system claims to protect the innocent and serve justice...a public defender once told me that if I expect to see justice in this court or any other court in this country I am sadly mistaken. Land of the Free (if you are rich), home of the Brave (if you are a professional athlete)...my country tis of thee, sweet land of liberty...of thee I sing. The founding fathers (yes I said it...and didn't say the politically correct junk) would be rolling in their graves to see how our country has become as bad as the countries they left behind to seek freedom to believe any way that your conscience allows. To see how the innocent are treated as guilty before they are given the two chances, fat and slim, of being set free as an innocent person...then the plea bargain means you will get less time and charges reduced. No justice...no mercy...it's mind over matter. They don't mind (cause they're rich) and you don't matter (cause you're poor).

As an American I agree with your first two points... alot of people here say Freedom isint free as in we have to pay for it by giving up other things but then how do we have freedom if other people make us pay for it? I dont know. I was born here. I didnt choose to live here. I pay taxes Not Free. I think that this country is alot NOT Free-er than other countries. Look at our political system - Democrats and Republicans ... there almost the same party just slightly differant views. Gun "control" If we were able to teach our children about guns that would be control, not waiting and haveing to get licences etc. And alcohol, if people were taught responsible drinking instead of making people wait (and most who want drink to wont wait till 21, they sneak it then drive or whatever never learning properly) till their 21. There is actualy a law on the books about "Fighting words" if I tell someone Im gonna kick there butt then I can get charged with inciting a fight. I guess since I am rasing a family here I have to live with them? Since people with out alot of money dont count in this country I guess I do.

Freedom in the U.S. depend on who you are in great degrees, some examples:

1) If you're gay, you aren't free to marry.

2) If you're famous, you can drink, do drugs and smoke--underage and go to a nice spa instead of jail if you get caught.

3) If you're a man, you can go topless in public--but not if you're a woman. (No public breast-feeding either in many places.)

4) You are free to own your home--if you want to live in servitude to a bank (pay a mortgage) and the government for 30 or more years. (Taxes.)

5) You are free to drop out of high school, but not free to continue school after high school graduation.

6) You are free to buy insurance, but not free to get health care without paying out-of-pocket (the 'elective" clauses on preventative care and others) or expect aid in a natural disaster. (New Orleans.)

Just a few "freedoms" we enjoy.

There are way to many.

Taxation without rep. is huge right now.

Free medical to illegals but not to its citizens.

Everything we do is licensed or taxed, car, license insurance. If you think you own a car that's a lie. Try not registrating it and then drive/ It wont be yours.

We dont even own money in yours/our pockets. It truly worthless, because their is no gold behind it.

Their is absolutely no freedom here. Cant even smoke hardly anyware. (I don't smoke) but it never bothered me.

Pay to go to parks plus pay with property tax.????

Public school is dumbed down so no gets left. But if you care about your children and send them to a private school(no tax breaks or funding) for that school or parents...very huge issue.

So basically we have to pay twice, once for public school that hopefully are children dont attend and then the school that we have to send them to get an education, free from propaganda.

The right to bear arms...why do we need a license then.

the DMV strictly states that driving is not a right thats why we pay for licenses.

thats some for now.

We are physically free but mentally captive by alot of needs and wants, standards and fears. We are insecure with a false sense of security. We cant be advised by the Media or corporations truthfully, we are continually decieved by the ones who uphold the laws, and racist to the bone, so much that its hidden by stereotypes. We are sexist, homophobic anti freedom, egotistical, selfrightious, blinded, free society!
But most are, so we might share the same lives!

- Americans' neighbors are encouraged to report signs of suspicious activities

- Americans that come from different nations are treated poorly because of the immigration problem

- It is an unspoken law that Americans must be very patriotic

- Immigrants who do not assimilate into American culture are frowned upon

- Prostitution is illegal

- There are laws.

- If you look Middle-eastern you undergo harrassment and long undignified procedures at airports

- You are forced to coexist with close-minded rednecks

- A bunch of your tax money goes to funding Israel's controversial militant activites in the middle east

idk if these help youor not

Even though being a U.S. citizen, born in the U.S., immigrants get more recognition by being given interest free loans by the government. This doesn't enable us to be able to have the benefits that they are given, and is grossly unfair. I would call that a loss of freedom to be considered equal by the government.
The government does not have a health care plan for the taxpaying citizens, but it does give free health care to those who do not work and are on welfare.
Also if you are single, you are penalized by having to pay a higher income tax percentage rate.

They have this crazy rule that you have to crawl along the highway at like zero miles per hour even if you are in a fast car, and if you go over the limit they put you in Alcatraz and throw away the key....In Germany, the home of the free, I can drive my BMW as fast as I like, in fact I will get fined if I go too slow...

In the US, if a person drinks under age they haul them away and put them in a jail cell where they are gang-raped by hooded zombies. In Europe teenagers are allowed to drink sensibly with a meal at their parents' dinner-table.

In the US if you smoke some weed they haul you away and put you in jail where you are gang-raped by hooded zombies. In Amsterdam you can smoke weed (sort of) legally in weed-bars and everyone smiles and is friendly.
