If one wanted to rent a rental car, is it legal for the company to make the client have more insurance if they are under 25, or is that age discrimination? (Is there any federal, state, or local law that you could refer me to?)

this has been going on for years. Yes it IS legal. there is no way around it. Most car rental companies don't rent to people younger than 25 because insurance claims are through the roof regarding accidents. Why would you loan a car to someone who is prone to accidents. That is something I totally agree with. If they did rent to the younger ones..instead of rentals being $20-25 a day..it would be $100-150 a day..what do you prefer?

As far as rental cars, insurance rates change at age 23 typically.

If you are simply aggrivated that someone is asking for younger drivers to be adequately insured given the higher statistics of accidents, I can understand it, but being an old bat who sees the errors younger drivers make, I'd like you to have more insurance too!

From a liability standpoint it may be wise for a company to attempt to place age limitations on their product.
Wheter or not their vendors will adhere to that policy is up for debate depending on profitabiity.

No. Oddly enough it isnt illegal for a car rental company to deny people under 25 (some have age limit of under 23).

Yes, not all discrimination is illegal. At this point "age discrimination" may be the basis of a claim only when you're denied some right because you're over 40 years old.

That is perfectly legal. There is no federal statute that makes it illegal. Also, plenty of case law affirms it.
