I've always mixed lemon juice and water in a spray bottle. get your hair wet when you are in the sun (at the pool/lake), out in some conditioner and then spray the lemon juice/water mixture through your hair and comb through. The sun activates the lemon juice and it will make your hair lighter. AND it looks natural!

in hte summer time my grandma used to mix vinager and water and put it on my head and let it soak for a minute...then we would wash it out and rinse. THen we would do our normal routine...it worked for me really well
