Bollywood is the informal name given to the popular Mumbai-based Hindi-language film industry in India. The term is often incorrectly used to refer to the whole of Indian cinema. The name is a portmanteau of Bombay (the former name for Mumbai) and Hollywood.

Its a term used for the Indian film industry by the West. You,ll have seen a trailer somewhere. They are making more movies per annum than Hollywood now, and thats a lot..! One of their biggest stars was on the reality TV show Big Brother a few months back. Shilpa Shetti, I think her name was.(Ask Jade Goody..!)

Its what they call India's Film Industry......a sort of left-handed compliment for how much it is influenced by Hollywood plots and styles. Most filmmakers in India detest the term, but have come to terms with its 'Brand' value outside India
