Yes, you can. You can catch a disease from kissing any animal. Reptiles carry salmonella which is what most people will tell you is the reason you have to be careful and wash well. If you did then you can mouthwash with hydrogen peroxide. Mix it with a little bit of water. (it should say this on the back of the bottle) and swish DONT SWALLOW. if you swallow the peroxide you will get so much sicker then you could from a tortoise. The peroxide should help with any bacteria or anything in your mouth. (Im warning you it tastes horrible) but it works. If you don't then take your chances and brush your teeth and mouth really good and use regular mouthwash I guess. Good Luck!

p.s) rinse your mouth out with water over and over again after peroxide to get it all out.

The most likely possibility is Salmonella (E. coli is very unlikely.) Even Salmonella is unlikely from a tortoise since they do not live in contamination the way turtles can.

Your odds for getting Salmonella this way are about the same as they are for eating cold cooked chicken (chicken salad) or deviled eggs.

Also- Salmonella is basically the same thign as 'the 24 hour flu' or a 'stomach flu'- a short-term of vomiting and diarrhea- uncomfortable, but not especially dangerous unless you dehydrate, are very young, or very old, or immune compromised.

I assume this is a pet and that you want to show it your affection and not some weird fantasy.
Yes, E.Coli is something you can get from the tortoise but, you do know that the pet does not respond to kisses like a human. He will be happy to see you by keeping him in a clean home and well feed.

Common cold, flu and mono all passed on from the infected kisser to the kissee. Herpes also which causes cold sores on the lips or inside the mouth. Hepatitis B and some forms of bacterial meningitis could also be transmitted through kissing alone, but this is much less common than getting a cold or flu from swapping saliva or hand-to-hand contact with an infected person.

Actually yeah, they tend to harbour Salmonella. Vets tend to use gloves to handle them. Don't kiss them!

turtles and tortises produce E.coli so kissing them is not a good idea. keep their water clean and moving everyday to aid in prevention.

It seems that you already have a mental disorder. Careful with the turtles.
