We got asked this question in our GCSE Math Intermediate exam.

2 is the same as 2/1 in fraction form
the reciprocate is just the opposite of it
all you have to do is put the bottom number at the top and the top number at the bottom, so
2/1 switched gives 1/2
so the answer is 1/2 which is the same as 0.5

All it means is you switch the numerator and denominator. Since 2 is the numerator and the denominator is understood to be 1. The reciprocate would be (1/2)

Reciprocal and reciprocate - are they same? Most of the answerers seem to think so, but why not call it reciprocal then?

and if it is square root as suggested by one, why it is not called square root?

Recipricate or reciprocal.
One of your answerers seems to think that 2 over 1 is one half.
Nay. it is still 2.
Another has the notion that a half times a half is two also.
Twice nay.
Try multiplying 1.4142135 by itself on a calc. near as darn it for all practical purposes two.
Sure the reciplacal of two is 0.5, but the recipricate is that long-winded number above.
