No, while Yankees-Red Sox series are fun to watch they are really meaningless because the Yankees are so far back.

I would have to say no...the Yankees seem to step up and play well against the Red Sox....then they go and play really poorly against everyone else. Last series when the Yankees took two of three from the Sox in Yankee Stadium they followed it up by losing five in a row while the Red Sox won five in a row. I am not saying it will happen again this time but if it does the Yankees can pretty much get their golf clubs ready. NY has to prove they can beat a team other than the Red Sox and the Rangers before I will believe the Yankees will even be in contention for the wild card.

The Red Sox are the team to beat in the AL East, so we will see if this is a sign for things to come, or the eye of the Yankees storm. I for one believe that Yankees have what it takes to regain a share of the AL East title, but their players all need to remain healthy, including Roger Clemens.
I think that things will start to pull together, but it might be too slowly to effectively create a come back. If Wang and Mussina can get back to their groves, and the big bats hit for average, there is a good chance. Never count the bombers out, no matter how bleak their future looks.

The Yankees only made up one game in the standings, the Red Sox won one so it cancels out one of the Yankees wins, they are still 12 1/2 games back in the AL East, if they get within 5 games then I will consider it a race but there are other teams in front of the Yankees that are considered more of a contender then the Yankees right now.

Even though we only we gained just one game on the Red Sox, it is so much better than losing that game and being 14.5 games back. Its important to win series like this to help the teams' psyche, which has been down as of late. I think that winning this series will go a long way in proving that the Yankees are capable and will make a run, whether they will overtake the Red Sox, I dont know, The Red Sox are a very good team, but they havent had any injuries to deal with, YET. Mike Lowell and Manny are old, Big Papi is playing hurt, Beckett has had problems with blisters on his throwing hand. Keep in mind that the Yanks are only 6 to 7 games out of the wild card as well.. To me, whether they come back to take the AL East or get the wildcard, they would be in the playoffs anyway, and a dangerous team, nontheless.

It's as much a comeback as the Royals getting back to 80's form after sweeping the Yanks at Yankee Stadium back in 2004 or 2005.

No the Yankees still have no chance at this point, I'll only worry about it if they come within 7 games of the Red Sox.

I cant wait to see the responses of Boston fans come October when they are sitting number 2 again! The Yankees have way too good of a team to not be winning! They have now won 4 of the last 6 against Boston and have gotten a little bit of a flare back. People say it is New York's pitching that is hurting them but, I think they have more problems with there bats. Players like Matsui, Jeter, Giambi, Cano (until recently), Damon and Meintkicitwz need to play to their potential. I think they are going to have a great starting rotation come a few weeks from now. Petite, Mussina, Clemens, Weng, and Hughes are pretty dam good and I cant wait for this team to get healthy. Hopefully it wont be too late. But, I dont see them not making the playoffs!!!

They may get back into it or they may not. But no matter what, we can still relish Arod taking Papelbon deep on an 0-2 pitch with 2 outs in the ninth last night.
Punk the Sox!

The Yankees would have to go on a major tear for that to happen, and then hope, and not rely on Boston to "Always choke in August" for that to happen. I say it's not out of the relm of possibility, but it's highly improbable that they catch the Red Sox.
