Assuming Windows XP, on your computer is a folder called "c:/documents and settings". Within that is a folder named the same as your log in ID. Windows is telling you that it can not open that folder (or the registry portion of it).

You can try logging on to the computer using the Administrator account. Reboot the laptop into Safe Mode. (Turn it on and begin to repeatedly press the f8 key until you get a secreen with the Safe Mode option). Enter Administrator for the ID, and your administrator password for the password (If your laptop came with Windows preinstalled, try just leaving the password field empty or blank)

Once in as the Administrator, you can go to the control panel and the user icon and create a new account for yourself on the laptop. Using that new account you should be able to log into the laptop normally.

Once in, go the old account under "documents and settings" and copy out anything you need to the new account. That should get you up and going.

Once you have everything out of the old account (give a week to be sure), you can delete that old account to free up space on your hard drive.

Click Start-control panel-system--then system restore--restore it to an earlier date--this can fix a lot of problems--hope it helps you.

If your computer is still under warranty, take it (or mail it) to the tech support people. If not, reinstall Windows XP.
