Don't follow the crowd. If you don't want to eat meat, then don't - but you will have to put some research in so that you get the right vits and minerals. Not eating meat can be healthier - a vegetarian diet has less cholesteral and saturated fat. But you can miss out on iron, vit B12 and a host of other stuff.

I don't eat meat because I have a choice: I can eat it and cause animals to die unfairly, or I can not eat it and reap the health benefits. It wasn't a hard choice. Here's a few pointers:

Quorn and meat substitutes - use them for protein. Also eggs, cheese, beans and pulses (eg. lentils) are good for protein.

Be careful not to get too much fibre - it can make you tired.

Marmite contains many of the essential vits and minerals you miss out on (like B12).

Always make sure you have some protein, some vitamin/minerals, and some carbs at every meal.

Dark green leafy vegetables contain iron.

Eat fruit to make up the c\alories if you find you are losing weight.

You can get some butter substitute made by nuts - called omega butter in the UK. It is BRILLIANT and tastes much like butter, but it is green.

Nuts are life savers - they contain amino acids, protein and unsaturated fats.

Omega 3 oils that some people get by eating a fatty fish once a week are also found in eggs.

By these principles I am healthy, but perhaps the most important thing is not to listen to people who think you can't be healthy and that we're the top of the food chain, etc, etc. There's also a veggie mailing list and magazine I foudn ages ao, don't know if it still exists or not.

That's just my opinion. Good luck! :)

I think vegetarians are well meaning but deluded. They seem stuck in a fairy tale world where everything can be good and kind and wonderful. Those are stories we tell to children because they are not prepared for the harshness of the world. The natural world is a brutal, uncaring battle for survival.

Now if that didn't annoy enough people - let me dig deeper. A majority of vegetarians are women. Some men go along with it, maybe in hopes of getting sex. Maybe these women have misplaced mothering instincints. A positive way to say this would be that women focus on hope and ideal situations more than men generally do. Religion seems to work in the same way. It is well known that organized religions target women to join knowing the women will bring the men to church.

Nothing wrong with being a vegetarian or a meat eater.
It's a matter of personal choice.

I learned very early in life (age 4) that they don't pick those neat Styrofoam and plastic wrapped chops, steaks and roasts off of trees; my grandfather was a butcher. I was upset when I found out, but my grandfather, being the devout catholic he is, told me that God told us it was OK to eat meat, but only to take what we needed to survive. Bible or no, I choose to eat it because I do not do well on a vegetarian diet. There are some nutrients that can't be gotten from plant sources.
I only eat it in small quantities, and only organically raised, humanely slaughtered meats.

Vegetarianism is definitely not wrong. What could possibly be wrong with it, aside of the fact that if everyone did it all the meat producers would be out of business? Well, that is capitalism. If everyone decides to do it, then that is their business.

Whether or not vegetarianism is "right" or just a choice you make is more debateable. I, for one, don't think there is anything wrong with eating meat. That's life. That's nature. It is debateable that eating meat is wrong, but it is also debateable what the economic and environmental results of everyone turning toward vegetarianism would be. What will happen to all those cows and pigs if we don't eat them? They'll go out in the wild and die anyway. They'll eat a lot of the vegetables. They will be out of control. We'll see an increase in predators, and they'll get eaten by pumas and wolves instead. So what difference does it make? That said, I do believe that the meat industry needs to treat their animals more humanely, but I don't feel that eating animals in itself is wrong at all. If it is, then lions, tigers, gorillas, panthers, cheetahs, bears, leopards, wolves, coyotes, snakes, alligators, crocodiles, eagles, hawks, etc. etc. etc all need to be stopped!

It's one choice - I choose to eat meat because there are no supplements that provide for muscle growth or develop a body in the way meat can. Scholarly studies have also shown that vegetarian children don't develop mentally or physically with some meat in their diets - so my children eat meat too.

I completely agree with you. I gave up meat for 2 months and i almost starved to death (not really) but all my family eats is meat, so i was always around it, so i was just like, ok, ill eat it, but then feel guilty

Another thing if you are wanting to become a vegitarian, youd also have to give up leathers, no leather shoes, belt, no footballs, no leather couch, or car seats. Being a vegitarian not only changes your diet, but everything else about your life

I would love to be a vegitarian, but i just dont have the strength to give it up because it tastes SO good.

some human beings think of that that's misguided because of the fact "God placed animals in the international to consume" or something like that. that's okay to consume meat, yet their isn't something incorrect with choosing to no longer. many people who're vegetarians don't get a balanced nutrition plan. in case you're careful nevertheless, you are able to have a healthful nutrition plan without meat. the certainty is, the final public of meat eaters have not got an exceedingly healthful or balanced nutrition plan the two.

Neither. If you want to eat only veggies, then more power to ya. But, the only thing I don't like about SOME vegetarians is they look down on those of us (a huge majority) who do eat meat.

It is a personal choice. If it is right for you, then go for it. Make sure to see your doctor and read up on dietary options so that you get the proper nutrition. It is possible to be a vegetarian and get the proper nutrition.

Personally...its not for me. I like burgers, tacos, and chicken breast. Que sera sera. lol
