I had a rear tire blowout yesterday going about 50mph. Lucky I'm still around to ask the question.

I bought my bike a month ago as a used school bike. Tires were checked out for proper inflation before I bought it by dealer. Had good tred. It was a side wall blowout. I didn't hit any potholes or curbs. Tow driver said might be defective. Bike is a 2006

Mine was not a complete blowout, but I had a tire puncture.
Pressure went from 42 PSI to less than 20
Its a 240 mm tire so things were a little tense on the way to the air pump.
The mechanic said they can plug it and patch i, but I optioned for a new tire. Better to be safe

My husband and I had a blowout last weekend , while riding on the Blueridge Parkway with a group of friends. we stayed up and had to call a wrecker to come get us. We got the bike loaded and was following the wrecker back to our hotel in Boone NC. when a young girl driving a car took her eyes off the rode and crossed into our lane and hit another of our riders, Broke her arm , ruptured her spleen, broke 3 ribs , punctured her lung. She had to be health neted to Johnson City TN . But the good news is she is doing well now and might get to come home this week.

I had a lump of steel (3 ft X 1ft) fall off a truck, bounce across 2 lanes into my path doing 60mph. (1979 Harley Sportster)Couldn't turn, didn't break, I pulled in my clutch, shifted my weight backwards and hit it square on. It blew my front tire and took a chunk out of my mag wheel. I did an endo and got it back under control then muscled it to the shoulder. I needed a new tire, front forks, wheel and under ware. Started riding in 76, first time anything that fun happened to me on a bike. I keep the wheel hanging in my garage.
Oh.... the butt head in the truck never even stopped.

I'm glad you're ok. People assume that a blowout while riding is an instant death sentence but if you keep your cool and know what to do it is possible to keep control of your motorcycle.
This site has some good info on how to handle equipment failure like a tire blowout while riding:
http://www.motorcyclegiftshop.com/equipment_failure.html
I think ever rider should be familiar with it.

Yeah.....I was on my brother's old Suzuki. I was making the turn on to my street when the rear tire blew out. I was probably going only 10 or 15 mph, but it still sucked. Had to push it a couple of miles to get home.

The question you should be asking is WHY DID MY REAR TIRE BLOWOUT? Wow dude, glad that you are still with us.
I really hope that you weren't riding around on bald tires.

Short answer, YES
Luckily (for me AND my passenger), it was when taking off from a light (slow speed), and I spun the rim on the tire, tearing the valve stem out.
