If I were president and I were to even think about dealing with healthcare, I'm afraid I'd have to push to rewrite the laws governing emergency rooms. Currently, the law states that no one is to be turned away regardless of inability to pay. AND, that the E.R. must not only treat to stabilize the presenting condition, but must also then make arrangements for continued care. Having worked in the E.R., I can't begin to tell you how frustrating it is to have to deal with people who've continuously made bad life decisions who then present to the E.R. for drug addiction related problems and basic head colds. It REALLY takes the "Emergency" right out of the name and purpose. As it is, it also makes the "Universal Healthcare" thing just a garbage ploy designed by the politicians to get us all talking before an election. In fact, it's a non-issue. It already exists.
As a capitalist, I believe that privilege should be earned and not handed over on a silver platter simply because you breathe.
So, what to do about all of those who have no health insurance or money enough to cover the costs? There are those "Free" clinics. Some are state and federally funded, others are funded by donation. Either way it goes, we have an education system already and completely funded, all you need do is attend and apply yourself! For those who take no interest, are more concerned with their boy friend/girl friend, their iPod, their clothes etc., I say, stand by, minimum wage is calling you. And, M.W. was never intended to be a sole means of support. You get what you pay for, you get what you deserve.

I would go after the courts and lawyers and cap payouts on lawsuits. This would bring down the insurance premiums of doctors and those savings would be passed along to us. Because of those insurance premiums doctors are doing a numerous amount of not needed tests that they normally wouldn't do in order to avoid a law suit. So you can look at the courts, lawyers and insurance companies for your answers. These recommendations came from a ER doctor.

I would change the entire welfare/entitlement program.

1. Take ALL illegals off entitlements of any kind.
2. Change the core of it to actually reward those who help themselves toward getting off of them...the current system punishes those who work.
3. With these changes alone, we could afford to insure all of those who are elderly, minor children, or disabled could have healthcare. Those who are capable of working can fend for themselves. As one of my best friends (an immigrant from Nigeria) says. If you are phyically capable, and you cannot support yourself in this country, then shame on you!

the key to that problem is the cost of education, it cost lots of money to be a nurse and it cost lots more to be a Doctor, if the gov pitch in some of the cost like 50% of each student, then we will have a good no of doctors and nurses with in 10 years, there are alots of hischool graduate will make a good doctors but they cant aford it
