Why do some USB devices work okay with hubs, and others don't?

If it is an unpowered hub then it splits the amount of power coming from the one usb port to every port in the hub. There many not be enough voltage to run certain usb devices this way. Your solution would be to get a powered hub. That should fix it.

First answer is correct. It is usually an issue with the hub not having enough power to run the devices. Sometimes a powere hub will resolve the issue.
