Ignore them. When you absolutely must deal with them, be assertive, but calm. How do I do it? By simply realizing that by being calm, I stay in control of the situation, and practicing. I always try to handle ALL my problems with reason and control. That way, when a situation occurs where I am facing intimidation, I am already used to doing it, and it is my natural reaction to a situation. Also, if you know ahead of time that you will be in such a situation, consider everything the person might do or say and prepare your reaction ahead of time. It really helps. You are right to consider this. It is always easier and better to handle a situation with calm and ration, rather than to throw a fit and look like an idiot. If the other person is the only one yelling, then they are usually the one that is losing the argument. That said, you mention "putting yourself in jeopardy." If the situation is dangerous in any way, it is best to get out of the situation, rather than stay and fight. If you ever feel threatened, you should try to get help. If someone ever touches you in an aggressive way, you should call the police. Good luck!

Self control for starters... When you can master that, you can let go. We react because they have pushed our button, they can see the reaction by what we say and the body language we display. If there is no reaction to their outbursts of intimidation or bullying then we are the one with the power not them. Eventually they will loose interest and move onto the next one that reacts! One day someone whos bigger and stronger will stand up to them hence no longer be that pain in the *** :-)

sounds like you are dealing with a bully. The best way to handle a bully is to stand up to them, usually once they know you will not tolerate their behavior they move on to someone else. You just have to be assertive.

Try not to let them control your emotions and you, because you are your own person and shouldn't let tell you what you can and can't do in life!
