I've been playing for about a year and a half and I don't want a used amp.

You can get a little Marshall practice amp for $74.99.
6 1/2 in. speaker, just somethin to plug in and play with.

If you want somethin with more power you're going to have to shed out a little more cash. But as for the Marshall, they are very good amps and you'll get good sound out of it depending on your guitar.

I have seen far too many people almost completely give up on guitar because they thought they couldn't play. They thought it was them sounding bad when it was really their equipment. I would suggest saving a little more money and buying a good amp. Something with at least 30 watts of power and preferably a 12 inch speaker. While I'm not a fan of Marshall amps sound they DO make a very quality piece of equipment. Peavey also make good amps with a better sound (in my opinion). My all time favorite, though, is Randall amps. Great quality, Great sound and Reasonable price. You can check out any of these amps at Musicians Friend (www.musiciansfriend.com), American Musical Supply (www.americanmusical.com - very limited selection of Randall amps), or check out their individual web sites. Trust me, the extra wait and the extra money will be WELL worth it.

Check out Guitar Center or your local pawn shop for a good used Peavy or Vox. Also, check the paper or websites in your area for musicians. There are always other musicians out there looking for some quick cash; you can get some great deals!

Just ordered the same Marshall Amp mentioned above for my son as a starter amp. If you are just starting out I would recomend it.
