One of the easiest way to fix a virus problem is to use the System Restore utility. Go to...

Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Select "Restore My Computer To An Earlier Time" and then click on a date a day or so before your problem occurred.

Follow the onscreen directions/selections and go forward with the restoration.

This will revert your PC to before the virus invaded it. All your personal files (music, pics, documents) will not be affected by this process.

Another helpful hint is to google the name of the virus. Usually you'll find instructions on how to remove it. These can be quite involved.

Reformatting you hard drive should be your last resort as you will lose anything you haven't backed up. Reformatting will however, get rid of the virus.

Hope this helps.

The repair console probably won't help you in this matter unless your Windows installation is bad. If you have a virus, the best thing to do would be to get some bootable rescue media - Hiren's BootCD is my personal favorite - and boot from that and try to use a virus scanner on the BootCD to get rid of the virus. After that, you can use the Recovery Console to find your installation and boot into it.

Good Luck.

By the way, what message did the "Blue Screen of Death" give you?

To answer your actual question, after it shows C:\\Windows, type in HELP and it will give you a list of available commands. If you want to know more about a command, type in "commandname /?" without the quotes.

The repair console will not remove a "virus", so if a virus is your problem you should try a good anti virus program such as AVG.
If you do need to run the repair console, the command Is:
chkdsk /r. There is a space between the k and the /. The repair console takes some time so be patient.
