Emotions are real. They have and are studied in the behavioral sciences, yet like many things the best that we can do is give hypothesis and humbly observe them, with humility and observances.
What I would like to offer as an example would be the emotions of love and hate, quite a fine line seperates them, and it might be assumed that the chemical flutter that makes us seem in love, can also be that basis and first reaction to the hate emotion.
The fear emotion, when we perceive danger, the adrenaline that flows in our body will produce a reaction, such as fight or flight syndrome. If we stay and fight, this controled fear becomes courage. And once we have learned that we can be successful at being courageous, not foolish, but courageous, then it becomes a part of our being. This same adrenaline rush makes us jet out of danger. It is usual that after we have either confronted the danger, or removed ourselves from this danger ( whether real or imagined) that we feel the affects of this adrenaline rush. Higher pulse, hightened sense awareness, etc, etc.
There have been studies done on fear. Unnatural or even natural phobias such as the fear of heights, the fear of the market place, the fear of enclosed areas, fear of the dark, on and on. And some can be controled and either greatly reduced or evindtually eliminated. Let's look at the fear of the dark. As a child it is crushing and it is severe and real. Yet, as we grow we seem to get a handle on it. Does it mean that it was not real, does it mean that we didnot really have this emotion of fear? No. It means that it is natural that as a child is unaware of the realities that no monsters exist under the bed, or in the closet. We mature, and as we mature in the natural world our emotions are brought under subjection.
Another example would be this, anger management. Anger is real. It can be brought on by emotional immaturity, or a mispercieved notion of expectation from others. Yet, when a person undergoes classes that makes one aware of the outlying circumstances that bring about this ugly reaction, and when we learn that we don't have to, or that we shouldnot explode, and that we can calm ourselves done, or that the provocation that was percieved can be interpretted another way, and other reactions, controlled reactions are more appropriate then we can learn to not only control outbursts, but once again, curtail, control or even overcome this problem.
Ask what the emotion of love is, and depending on the ten people who respond, you will get a mixture of ten different answers with some overlapping adjectives describing it.
But, it is real. It is percieved maybe, by how as we were brought up and matured we naturally draw our own conclusions on what it is. These conclusions can be based on accuracies as well as inaccuracies. These could have been affected by our observances of others in a relationship as a child, or our own experiences when going through our own unique experiences as maturing adults.
Emotions are chemical, they are learned and unlearned, they are based on natural inclinations and also they are based on environment or nurture.
In western cultures where independence personal and national uniqueness and the sense of individualism is the norm, people respond more on a self interest level.
In, let's say, the Polynesian, Afrikaan, Asian, or the Native American cultures, the society that people are brought up in, one in which the stress in on the tribe, or the family as awhole, one in which all is done out in the open where many adults might have a say so in the conduct of children, one where humility and uttmost respect is taught for elders there is quite a noticable difference in delinquent attitudes and behavior.
So, emotions run the gammut of being real, percieved, and instilled. At least, these things directly affect our use and abuse of our emotions.
I hope that I have helped you. Etienne Primeau

Thoughts control emotions and emotions influence behaviour
If you control your thoughts by meditatingyou can harness your emotions
emotions not expressed can fester in the body and lead to physical illness
like depression is anger thats not been released over time
cancer is thought be as a result ofunreleased anger
so emotions are very real and only through thought can they be controlled

that question isn't very easy to answer and doesn't really make sense... but i'll try to answer it. emotions are uncontrollable, most of the time. sometimes, when you feel sad and desperately want to cry, yet you're forcing yourself not to, then obviously, that's not an emotion you choose to have. the emotion is real and you're not trying to create it. but say for example, you're a naturally moody, sad person, you may try to be negative on purpose, because that is who you are.

Hi,
emotions preceed throughts and ideas, which can be created or are real...so it depends on that. Some people are good at faking emotions, other wear theirs on their sleeve. Emotions are real, but the truth behind them may not be.

Different things trigger different responces and when tests are done you can see how your brain reacts to different sensation, so your brain generates the emotion that you feel. It's like chocolate and love. Both make the brain produes the same hormone so that you feel love emotion - this is why most people love chocolate! lol! On the otherhand people can fake emotions.

They are made up. Everything is relative to the individual. One person may laugh at what makes another cry. However, that doesn't make them any less real to that person.

They're real, but we can fake them. Like hapiness. People can't be truly happy. That's weird. Happy... I don't know. I mean you can laugh, but are you happy for a longer time? Anyway, they're real.
