I wish there was a civic mechanism to outline the hypocrisy
without retribution..

I've wondered that question myself... My best friend is an officer and we go out to general bars with our wives and a few other officer couples. I seem to always be the only person sober at the end of the night and each couple drives home. My buddy was pulled over while drunk and was told to drive home safe.

The only recourse is calling their supervisor which never accomplishes anything because no politically venerable figure is willing to incriminate them self. You can call the state police but when the drunk shows his ID and badge everything changes.

The only possible non corruptable able civic mechanism would be citizens allowed to arrest officers and a D.A. who is completely impartial.

I have no idea approximately the law enforcement officials to your the city, however the ones in mine busted the woman who ownes a sexy massive espresso chain in in all places massachusetts. She was once under the influence of alcohol, and giving booze to minors (sixteen y.o). Now, all of us must get our espresso someplace else, as she advised us that she could pee in our espresso subsequent time she noticed us are available. Where I am from, no under the influence of alcohol driving force will get a holiday. Even the households participants of different law enforcement officials get arrested. There is 0 tolerance right here.

They don't want to come here. Our state police will not let anyone off of a DWI, including the governor or the head of the dept of labor who they followed back to his office to arrest him.

They wouldn't let the head of the State Police off! This is the wrong state too drink and drive. Whether you are a cop doesn't matter, except if they get busted they have no job!

You are asking a question about an occurrence in less than 1% of all police officers. How about intoxicated taxi drivers? Truck drivers? Doctors, lawyers, priests?

The media distorts information in such a way you would think cops are responsible for 90% of all crime. However, when a "regular citizen" drives impaired and gets arrested, it does not sell newspapers.

Drinking and driving for a police Officer is no different than for anyone else. As a matter of fact, the first thing my old FTO taught me was to make DAMN sure I charged any officer I caught for DUI and he didn't care WHO it was to include the Chief and he would back me up 100%.

You can contact your local newspaper. Either talk to a reporter to do a story on it or write a letter to the editor to (maybe) be published.

If more people in your city knew this was happening, there's a very good chance something would get done about it.

Since I'm not sure what state you are writing from, it's hard to give a valid answer. In Texas, I know a few officers, and even an assistant DA who went to jail for DWI.

Perhaps because they know at what point to cease drinking so that, as legal adults, they are not legally drunk and are therefor legal to drive.
