I just asked a question regarding stalking. I’ll give more details so you all can tell me if I have a case. First I noticed that she changed her address and her mail isn’t coming to my house anymore but any mail that I do get (marketing mail or another piece of mail) with her name on it, someone is crossing out just her first name and putting it in the mail box. Would the post office do this? I would imagine they don’t have time to cross out somebody’s name even if they know they don’t live there anymore. Is it tampering with mail? I would think the post office wouldn’t cross the name out because that’s tampering with the mail. They just deliver as is. Also she is dropping off her daughter at my neighbor’s house in the morning right when I leave for work and showing up at the gas station right by my house at the same time as me (I just drive by). This weekend I have to take my children back to their mother at a specific time. My ex. Knows the time and lives 20 minutes away now but right at the time I take my kids back, she was at that convenient store right at that time on Saturday morning. Is that enough for stalking and please answer the question about the mail so I can call the post office and report it. She seems to be stalking but being very good at doing it in a public place so it doesn’t look like it. But the mail thing is a different story. Maybe the post office is doing it? I doubt they have time to look through the mail and crossing out her name. I think they have to deliver it as is without alterations. I can’t see a mail guy knowing she doesn’t live there anymore and crossing her first name off the mail that comes to the house. I don’t think they can do that. Anybody work at the post office here? I want to see if I can use this as evidence. Plus somebody smashed in the side of my mailbox but I don’t have proof it was her.

this is what my friend did .. he bought a tiny live camera and installed it directly in the view of the mail box.. and he filmed everything that was going on..so after he captured on a video he turned it over to DA office.

First of all, I would call the post office and ask them. She might be doing it since the mailman usually does not write on the piece of mail itself. If they have a question they will write it on a slip of paper and leave it in the box. The part about stalking....you have to have hard evidence to prove that she is actually stalking you. It seems like she is trying to get you back and thinks if you see her everywhere you will give in. The best thing to try is going to your local court house to the clerk of court dept. and ask if you can put a restraining order on her..usually you have to fill out paper work about what has happened and whats going on and a judge has to approve it from there, this to is a hard process but let them know what is going on and that you have kids. If the judge denies it at least you have record that you filed a report and if she does something stupid go back and file another report and 95% of the time if it is good cause the judge will grant the order. If they don't at lease you can ask them what you can do to stop her from harassing you. I think I would also install a video camera outside your house because then you will find out if she is really going into your mailbox but, she might get away with that one due to the fact she use to live there and she can come back with, "I was just checking to see if I had any mail". Even if the mailman knows she doesn't live there you will get anything with her name on it as long as it has the address. Also ask your mailman for a form (can't remember what it is called) I think it is a verification of who lives at the address and see if they will stop putting her mail in your box. Hope you find this helpful. Good luck.

No, you don't have enough evidence that she is stalking you because she is always doing it in public places. As for the mail, no the post office would not scratch out her name. You can report this happening to them, but they would tell you that they don't do that. What you should do is get a security camera that is focused on your mailbox. I think she is checking to make sure you don't have anyone else staying with you AND making sure you keep thinking of her. Also, change the route in which you go, or leave earlier than you normally would. This will throw her off, and if you spot her after you changed your route/schedule then you could say she is stalking you.

To answer the post office part...
The letter carrier will sometimes cross off the name of the former resident if the mail is addressed:
Jane Smith
or current resident
1313 Main Street.
That is pretty much standard procedure in most cases. Otherwise people do not read the or current resident part, and try to give it back to the mailman. However, he cannot accept it because the mailer wants it delivered to whoever lives at the address.

From a legal standpoint, this does not meet the criteria for stalking anywhere in the U.S. Your best bet is to file an informational report with your local police department so that if the situation escalates, every phase has been documented for evidentiary reasons, and will give you more basis for a protective order should the need arise.

i would say go to the police and at least make a staement, most times they will not do anything if u have dont have any proof, but if u just walk in there and say hey this is whats happening and i want it on paper just in case something happens they will not refuse u..... be safe make a report soon as u can....
