i would rather be respected, but i'm afraid people are more in fear of me than anything. it all comes from my childhood. as a child, i would always keep things to myself. i would never really say anything to anyone, and i had a lot of problems in my life. as a result of this, as i got older, i didnt want to be like that anymore, so when people would irritate me (like my dad with him constantly being in my face), i would lash out at them. as a result, my immediate family (people who live in my house) were in fear of me. instead of arguing with me, they would refrain from it and let me be. in a way, that was a good thing, but it just doesnt feel right knowing that the reason they're like this is because they are in fear of me, and i would rather they respect me and my thoughts.

The only reason why people (the ones closest to you) are friendly to you are because they fear you, and if given the chance to take advantage of you when you get weaker they would jump on the chance.
With respect comes other things like mutual respect, and admiration for each other.
I'd much rather have respect.

Fear is respect, just on the other end of the spectrum.
God-fearing is meant to be the same as God-honoring or respecting. If you are living right, you have nothing to fear, but you fear sin because you know that it ruins who are able to become - a truly happy person.
As for me, I don't want fear. I want respect, translating into the love side of the spectrum. I just want to be loved.

Some of history's greatest leaders were feared, but I would rather be respected.

Respected, someone who fears you is more likely to hire a hit man when you aren't looking.

If you are feared you will find you are in constant danger of retribution, and cohesion is often called respect. If you 'command' respect then you have a automatic contradiction, simple as that!

I believe anyone in the right mind would prefer to be respected, to be feared you would be one lonely and empty person.

Feared. Being feared results indirectly in being respected. They may not truely respect you but if they fear you they will respect you even if it's fake.
