Now that the Yankees do not have a First Baseman,do you think that Goerge will ask Don Mattingly to come out of retirement, and play first base,or do they make a trade?

Josh Phelps is not the answer, but I dont see what the Yankees have to trade away. They dont want to trade Phil Hughes (who may miss the rest of the season with his new ankle injury) and they dont want to trade the 3 young arms they got from Detroit in the Sheffield trade.

I think the Yanks may just trade away some vetrans like Damon or Abreu for some more youth. That and a free agent or 2 in the off-season will get them back in line for the 2008 season.

They might make a minor trade but i don't think they will. Josh
Phelps was platooning with Mientkiewicz before the injury and Phelps has been hitting well so Phelps will probably get the majority of the at bats and they will probably bring up Andy Phillips from the minors to play some 1st base, last year Phillips backed up Giambi at 1st.

Don Mattingly is not coming back. He is old, plus he has a bad back which forced him to retire in the first place. The best case scenario would be for them to make a trade.

Neither. They will play Phelps at first base. Any money they have, they need to spend on rebuilding an aged, decrepit, pathetic pitching staff. Mussina and Petite are getting slammed, and Clemens the excuse maker, is injured with a ticklish groin. Even Wang is getting hammered! Mattingly coming out of retirement will do nothing to help such incompetence.

Chow!!

From what I heard, they are running Damon through some 1B drills. Considering the leg problems he's been having, the thought is that 1B will be easier on him.

The name I think you'll hear thrown around - Texas' Mark Tiexiera. The Yankees could use his bat even before they lost 2 of their 3 first basemen.

How about understanding that the team is old and bringing in younger players, from the minors. That's why teams have minor league systems.

hopefully they will trade many prospects for the washed up Todd Helton; George will blow a gasket; Rocket will fizzle, and they'll wonder how they ended up in last place.

Don grows his mustache back and mans the 1st bag.
