Majority of the people regardless of age, gender, education, and profession agrees that America is in deep trouble and there are lots of evidence to prove it.
With our national debt at $97.6 Trillion, our social security and medicare will be gone in the near future.
http://mwhodges.home.att.net/nat-debt/debt-nat-a.htm
With a "war-president" who believes in doing whatever it takes to get the mission done in Iraq on the "war on terror" and many of Americans are losing faith in politics. A lot of us are losing jobs overseas to cheaper laborers and China and India are expected to be the next superpowers.
The future looks dim for America in preserving it's global power or is it?
One very important factor that many Americans have forgotten is that most countries copies our ideas. Innovation is what drives our country foward despite our debt. The American music, the fashion, the food, and TV shows are influences the world.
Americans do something and the whole world follows.

Americans does something and the world follows us and not the other way around. This is the reason why America will continue in being the superpower for a very long time.

America may not be perfect, but after much travel outside of the U.S., despite her faults, I know there is no other place in the world I would want to call home.
God Bless America our Troops and Commander in Chief !!!

About the nation debt there is another indicator you should look at before you go farther that is national debt vs GDP
Here the link with a better explanation of it:
http://www.cedarcomm.com/~stevelm1/usdebt.htm
We have the stock market now in record range, home ownership is all time high and our poor on average lives a lifestyle far better than most of the world.
This war was thrust on us and we can either fight now or talk and fight it again and again.
This is war on Muslim terrorism:
http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/
This is what we are dealing with and we learn about 2 plots already and who knows how many others are out there that have been stop.
We want simple answers for complex problems.
China and India have cheap labor for now but guess where they are getting their heavy equipment to do the job? It is us.
China has its own problems dealing with the upcoming democracy. If China wanted to come down hard on Hong Kong it would have years ago but today's China is different they are figuring out how to play this world political game.
We are hated but guess what country is the first to show up when their is trouble and people need help.
After the tsunami in Indian Ocean who show up with medical ships, helicopters, flew in supplies, and didn't wait around for fancy promises Europe made.
Yes we do have problems but the party is far from over.

It is the pesimistic views of America like yours that seem to permeate the news media. But for the average American, that is not hardly the case. More of us are moving from the ranks of the poor to the ranks of the middle class and even the upper middle class. We are such a great nation that we can have a war going on in Iraq and still not fully feel the affects of it here in this country. At no other time in human existance has that been possible. And you complain about social security and medicare and the national debt, all those things are generated from liberal give aways. This country was founded and flourished by those individuals who did not want a hand out but wanted to earn things on their own. Maybe if that spirit was brought back to the forefront, you would finally get off your butt and earn what is yours instead of claiming that the government owes it to you. Maybe we would feel much better about ourselves if we didn't have so much government sticking its dirty little fingers in our lives. Why do we have so much legislation and removals of our freedoms that are useless?
Finally you mention that the rest of the world follows our lead. Then damn it why don't we lead!!! This war in Iraq was a clear indication of leadership on a very serious problem world-wide. Why are we allowing free entrance into our country while demanding borders be enforced in other countries? Why are we giving away without consequence when other countries cannot?
I do not hold your view that the future looks dim for America. Just the opposite. It looks quite good. All other countries in this world look to the US for protection from terrorists. They look to this country for new ideas and inventions. And we will deliver if liberals are pushed out of the way. Let this country be the way it was created; rugged individuals who want a better life for themselves and their kids. Let's get rid of those who want to get something for nothing and the liberals who are more than willing to give it to them.

I believe in America. My parents lived through Vietnam and the Cold War. Their parents lived through a NUCLEAR bomb being dropped on Japan. Their parents lived through the depression and the stock market collapse. We have remained on top. Our problems are big they need to be faced but we should not think for a second that Americans have not defeated problems like this before. Being on top means that we have to take "pot shots" from every other country that doesn't like the way we do buisness....oh well it's only words. And for every word that they speak another one of their contrymen has just left their country to live here. So keep your chin up, and lets fix the debt because that is one hell of a bill.

To anyone who says that people have the opportunity to make something of themselves, I ask how are children, people who are disabled, or seniors who have had their life savings ripped off going to make something of themselves? I've noticed a lot of people in this section talk about liberals as if they are some kind of lazy slobs that just want a handout. I don't think these people realize that welfare was reformed over ten years ago (during the Clinton administration). There is a time limit for able bodied people to find a job, nowadays. Of course some people would rather live in the world of negative stereotypes than in reality.

I do believe in America and have lived abroad for many years. Nothing compares to this country.
Yes, we have made mistakes and there are many things that need to be resolved to get us back on feet and on the right road again. The key lies in who our new leaders will end up being. I hope that people are careful when casting their votes and are not voting out of hate or intense dislike for the actions of one President.
We need to get rid of everyone in Congress while we're at it, and start with a new slate!

Yes, you've pointed out some negatives, but as bad as things seem to you young folks now, we've been much worse off in the past, and we've always recovered. We just need good leadership. Or, more correctly, we need thoughtful leadership.
I can remember living through the days of Jimmy Carter's presidency. If you think things are bad now, I'll tell you, that was a pretty depressing time. And what about the Richard Nixon days? Then Ronald Reagan came on the scene and helped the nation recover from the Carter malaise and the Nixon dishonesty, and we've been back on track ever since, more or less. I'm sure that people who lived through the Great Depression would tell similar stories of recovery.
So today is not nearly as bad as it seems. We can recover. We just need someone who won't lead us astray.
I'm supporting Dr. Ron Paul for President. I'm convinced he's the right person for the right time to lead us out of this quagmire. He opposed the war in Iraq since the beginning, and he has a great understanding of world economics. He'll get us back on track economically and in foreign policy. (He's also been a leader in the fight for maintaining internet freedom). Don't let the news media tell you who to vote for. Make your own decision.

america biggest problem is ,israel
If u look in all the problems that happened to usa u will find one reason, israel, either direct or indirect, but in the end its the main reason.
Example;
1- during the 80s ,
israel fears Iraq power,
but america is a friend of Iraq using it to fight Iran,
so america had to give Sadam the green light to do something stupid (Kuwait invasion),so america can have a good excuse to turn on Iraq and weaken his powers for the sake of israel safety.
2-90s,
america settle its army in saudi & the gulf countries using the excuse of protecting them from Iraq, but in fact they were protecting israel.while weakening Iraq more by economical boycott that caused 10000s of Iraqi babies to die from hunger (imagine the feelings of the families of these babies,i think they LOVE america!!!)
Osama & his friends who were trained by americans ,have a shock when they found the us army inside their countries,so they decide to fight america.
3-2000s
america destroys Iraq for the sake of israel, then go after Syria & Iran, also for the sake of israel.
america support israel blindly in its massacreses against the Palastinians & the Lebanese, and even veto against any resolution to hold israel accountable for its terrorist actions in the SC.
Soory ,but america needs to get rid of this deadly Virus called israel before it can go back on track.

I believe in America and most of it's people.
I do not believe the current administration represents America or the majority of Americans. I believe that the current administration is corrupt!
I believe we can get back on the road we were on before Clinton left office and we had a budget surplus. We were liked and respected in the world. People do things because you inspire them to do things, not that you put an M16 to their head and pull the trigger! JFK was like that!
America is not weak. The only cancer we have is relegated to Washington DC and that can be changed! Cut it out!

At the present moment I do no trust the government, I think there is alot of information (lies) being withheld from the public and I hope to see this all surface as soon as the GWB is replaced and a new president and his/her cabinet restore integrity to the White House and America. This will be on January 20, 2009.
