Whore?.... define what makes her one?...because it would seem that if a woman flirts, but not sleep with other men then she still is a whore...don't you think such a word for women is used far too frequently even when it's not relevant?....

ILOVEU...this is what i was getting at this happened to me also...men always use that word to beat women over the head with when they are rejected...exactly my point...and i have never slept around in my life but flirt and was called a one.

It's appropriate to call a woman that name, in my opinion, when she sleeps with men and performs other sexual acts in exchange for money. Then, she's the literal definition of one. However, it's an extremely immature word to use and has been known to be spawned by jealousy and resentment.

Whore: Someone who sleeps with people for money. If you don't do that, then you are technically not a whore.
That said, it is generally used as an insult to women who sleep around a lot, especially if they are in a committed relationship. Flirting? Definitely not a whore. If anyone says that, it is just because they don't like the person and want to insinuate that they are doing more.
I don't think the word is used to the point of not being relevant, because the fact is that it is still a word that can crush a person's esteem or ruin their reputation. But it is definitely overused, and often in the wrong ways.
Another good question: why isn't there a word for the guys that are participating in this? For every supposed "whore" who is flirting or sleeping around, there is a guy participating with her. Doesn't seem fair.

A whore literally is a woman who pleasures men sexually in exchange for payment.
Colloquially it has come into usage as an insult to be used when you think a woman is disagreeable. And, yes, it probably has come to be used a little too frequently.

It’s used more as if she is a whore in her mind, not in reality. A man’s view might be that if a woman is flirting than she’s thinking about how she wants to have sex with the person she’s flirting with, because this is what men are thinking when they are flirting. They don’t realize that we’re just trying to get free drinks! lol

The only way you can call a woman a whore is going by the definition which is a prostitute ( definition from http://www.thefreedictionary.com/whore)
A woman who flirts is not a prostitute/whore.
Yes I think it's a word that used far too loosely and too often.

this is just my opinion and I am going to be blunt....It is ok for a guy to screw anything that walks, just to get off, or brag, or boast his ego, whatever, and that is ok. It is ok for guys to USE a girl, possibly she really liking the guy, AND he knows it! and use her for a piece of tail, and then see ya', and that is ok in the male set of standards, But, the GIRL, is a Ho......BS!!!!!!! I am probably a lot older than you (46), and this is how I see it....It is my "you know what", now I am married over 27yrs, BUT, if I wasn't. And I wanted to satisfy my sexual needs, and I liked a gentlemen, IF I WANTED TO, why can't I CHOOSE to say yeah, why do I have to see him again, or perhaps do. IT IS MY "whoo-ha" and if I want to it doesn't make me a HO......Only to someone who thinks they are the rules and standards maker, what do I give a crap what they think!!!! use protection, do it, don't do it, It is MY choice just as it is the guys choice to pull his pants down, if I am a HO, then most men are the Kings of HO's!!!!!!.......The word and stigma attached to it is to make the woman feel bad, it's 2007, to hell with that!!!!

no way, flirting does not mean you are a whore in my books - thats so harsh! If a person sleeps around with random ppl then that would constitute a whore!

that we have no word for men and only women?
if men sleep around they are deemed studs..
if a woman does the same she's labeled in a derogatory way.
any man who uses those words to a woman .is a man who is a misogynist..they hate women..and look for any chance to degrade women.

By definition a whore is someone who sells her body. By everyday definition, a whore is someone who has sex freely with every person she has contact with. Women will always have to fight this word, no matter how you look at it.

yes. the word is used too much.
in fact, in the example you provided, the actual term "whore" is being used out of context completely. (and ive seen the word used that way, and it doesnt make any sense)
It just goes to show how twisted our world can be.
