Personally I don't like the abstract form, I appreciate the UK is formed from differant entities but the logo does NOT appear very united in its presentation. It presents itself as unfinished and only partial in its representation, the still image reminds me of a splatter of pink, not representational of the strength, courage and determination the people of the UK are known for, hardly a go get them image!
The active image I saw on the News this morning reminded me of a throw back to something from the 80's. Need I say more.
As to representational of London? I recognise no aspect of the logo that makes me surmise an image of London? (I'm not talking literally) Yes I recognise the multi-cultural aspect but that's all.
I urge the Olympics committee, hold off getting the merchandise printed, I shallnt be purchasing any keepsakes if the logo remains the same.
May I suggest that a Blue Peter art competition for the children would have offered us a more promising alternative!!!
If you are looking for the silk lining in this review the only one I can offer is this
Selecting such a good example for being controversial, obviously raises its position as a good media news story, its not likely to be imediately forgotten, possibly good in the sense that it raises awareness in the fact that in 2012 the Olympics are to be in London???? Some kind of marketing kick back somewhere, surely?????????!!!!!!!!
Who was the marketing Company????

I think it is wonderful.
Bright, angular (not jagged) and with a real suggestion of movement about it - the first '2' looks like a sprinter on their blocks and the second reminds me of a diver in the tuck position. If you look at the direction of all the numbers, they are moving forward.
London is a bright, angular and constantly moving city and the logo reflects this. The fact that it attracts people from all over the world both to visit and to live is something I, personally, am proud of, and I don't even live there myself.
We can only hope that the Olympics is just as bright - it will certainly have many facets to it and the whole ethos of the event has movement at its very core.
I don't really care if some retired athletes reckon the home nation won't do very well. I do care about the event itself being something for people to enjoy and all this whining is just boring and predictable.
It's not about the winning it's the taking part, right? Well no, actually, it seems that the Olympics 2012 is not about the winning but the taking apart. All the criticism is counter-productive and we should be able to judge for ourselves, not now, but in a few years' time.
Stop complaining and celebrate an event that unites people.
I very much like the fact that it reads as twenty-twelve rather than two-thousand-and-twelve - the former is faster, geddit? - and the fact that it looks similar to the writing on the Arctic Monkey's latest album is another plus - the Olympics are about expressing yourself and that is what they do through music.
What do the whiners want? A Union Jack with a bulldog's face on?

I'm surprised that this logo has been chosen to represent London 2012's Olympic brand. It conveys a weak, disjointed and unappealing impression to this viewer. The colour combination is ugly, the letterforms have a violent, 'shards of glass' look to them and suffer from illegibility (the "12" at first appears as "1-2" due to the rendering), and the word "London" and the Olympic rings symbol appear to have been gratuitously slotted in, adding to the clutter. I would also worry about the readability of these last two items at small repro sizes or in one colour, newsprint forms. This 'logo' in totally pointless. Other than the small bits of writing on it, it says nothing about London or the Olympic movement, and even less (if that were possible) about 2012. All it does is make the British Olympic Committee a laughing stock for allowing themselves to be conned by a slick marketing company into paying out a ridiculous amount of money for a piece of meaningless tat.

Honestly if this is what a percentage of the £9.3 BILLION has been spent on I'm ashamed that the Olympic officials could use our money that way. It really is shameful there are absolutely no good points and looks as if someone spent 2 minutes on it. Plus all this rubbish that they're saying like '" We think it is modern and represents our country and what we stand for and how our Olympic games our going to be'" Well if their logo looks like this I'm not holding out much hope for the Olympics and now I probably won't be going. And representing our country IT LOOKS LIKE A CHINESE OR JAPANESE LETTER if someone saw that they'd think oh I like the logo for the 2008 Olympics at BEIJING then we tell them "oh erm no actually that's for the 2012 Olympics in London" IT'S A DISGRACE

It's not even remotely capturing the spirit, sentiment or pride that the whole of Britain should feel for hosting such a massive event such as the Olympics. I gaurantee someone made a MILLION from these few squidges. It's a disgrace that this is the best 'Cool Britania' could come up with. I'd rather a cuddly lion cartoon character like something from the eighties to this mess. That's what it is...a mess. It doesn't even look intentional. Only one person on this blog actually praised it and they probably had something to do with the design. Politicians should have the courage to say what they really think and demand a new logo. It's embarassing and everyone can see it bar the people who were in charge of creating it.

The designer(s) and the people that chose it must see something in it that I can't. Maybe I'm dim or something but it doesn't represent the vibrancy of London, the history, the culture, nothing whatsoever. What a shame that half a million quid has been wasted on nothing more than a squiggle. Why wasn't a competition held for school kids to design it. Would have been cheaper and a better job too.We could have had an open competition to design a logo and then spend the money on an established design firm to neaten up the winning design if needed and hey presto, something designed by the British and chosen by the British public.

My idea would've been to design hurdles (or any other sport) of London's iconic buildings, new and old.
