It's been at least 15 days since I planted them from seed. Could it be the climate?

Poppies do best if you just sow and forget, and they can take longer than 15 days to germinate. I sowed some in a tub in March and waited over a month before I saw any seedlings. It just depends on climate: they need a bit of warmth, sun and moisture to germinate well. Give it at least another few weeks before you start to panic: it's possible the seed was old and not viable, but poppy seed is pretty tough and you usually get SOME coming through even with old seed.

Poppies of all types seem to thrive on "benign neglect". I've had the best luck here in North Dakota sprinkling the seed on top of a spring snow. It gets the seed in early and you can see where those little seeds go, no need to cover with soil. If you haven't planted to deep they should be up soon. They won't be very big and as they grow they look like a lot of weeds so be careful what you pull. RScott

You can try using a heated seed starting tray. It may not help to get them going faster but you will have more seeds germinate. They run about $50 here in Canada at Wal-Mart so I would wait a while before dropping $50 on a nice gardening toy.
