It is all to do with gender stereotyping - which we are all probably a little guilty of with our own kids. We buy pink things for girls and cars, trucks, footies etc for little boys. Studies show that given a free choice, many little boys choose pretty items over cars etc and though many may feel uncomfortable with this, it does not mean that the boy child will turn out to be gay.

This is really something that depends on where you live. In my opinion, I think it's ridiculous to dress a certain way to get a type of guy to like you (notice how I said type and not specific guy). What if all the guys in that group are jerks? Then what do you do? Wouldn't it be more beneficial to you to find a guy who likes you for who you are? Anyway, whatever. None of those three will attract guys unless they're real losers. All three of those are obnoxious. The last one is not indie whatsoever. First, I'd say to drop the colored jeans and just pick up a simple, dark pair of skinny jeans. Flannels are nice, but not bright ones. If you want to go for a "punk" look, try studded things like belts and bracelets. Also, if you've noticed in all those pictures of "emo" people on Google, the boyfriend's and girlfriend's hair match. Just a thought. As for shoes, heels are good, or a nice pair of wedges even, provided you want to wear heels. If not, make sure to get cool sneakers, like Vans. Those are good. Another thing is, make sure to back up your image with music taste that suits it. Without the proper music, despite that you'll be made fun of by countless other types of people for liking that emo junk, will make you seem like a more legitimate emo kid.

Because they are children who are uncomfortable with their own feelings so they lash out at anyone who is braver than they are to do what they want insted of what the group does.
They can't think for themselves, so they merely follow the "herd".
