your shift linkage should be bent 3/8 rods that run from your column under the hood to the transmission, the prindle cable that controls the shift indicator above your column on your dash is a dealer item and can be changed by removing the access cover under the steering column[held on by 4 screws]
and feeding the small thread up to the spring-loaded dash indicator, if this is what you are talking about, it shouldn't take more than 1/2 hour to replace, hope this helps

Column shift does not use a cable ---it uses a rod that goes from the column down to a bellcrank lever to the trans.

one end of the cable connects to throttle body on top of the engine the other connects to the tranny on the right side above the oil pan replace the same as you remove the old. one. or if your talking about the pointer in the instrument cluster on the dashboard pull the bezel cover off instrument cluster and you will find the pointed cable under the panel. be care full in there, lots of little stuff in there to break you will probably have to take an old string (CABLE. its a string,) from a junker in a wrecking yard

u stick the levvy in to the rotational valve then start the spark plug and throw a mcvities biscuit at it okay????
