first off be prepared to get very little money for it..i pawned a gold necklace with a matching ring and i got $30 total for the two items. both came from a very expensive jeweler and cost over $100 each..i didnt buy it my ex did so it wasnt like i lost any money but still they rip you off wiked bad!! They appraise it in front of you and then they offer you whatever amount they think its worth and the lowest they think you will take it for. DO NOT tell them its your first time pawning something because that basically is the same as having a sign over you that says "sucker..please rip me off even more!!" you can choose to accept their offer or try to bargain but they will jack up the price when they resell it. i got $30 for my ring and necklace and i went back to see how much they were sold for and the ring was marked as $120 and the necklace was $99...yeah ridiculousness!! oh and u have to show proper ID and im pretty sure u have to be 18 but i could be wrong...all i know is that u have to have ID or they wont do business with u because if the item comes back stolen then they are liable so they need ur info so if whatever u try to sell is indeed stolen then they cant get in trouble and they can turn u in..dont sell stolen sh*t!! haha good luck

p.s also dont tell them u arent sure if its a real diamond because if they think u dont know then they will say oh its fake and give u $10 for it and then sell it for $1000...pretend like u know everything and bargain with them!!

take the ring to the pawn shop tell the clerk that you've got a ring that you like to pawn the clerk then will take the ring and check to see if it is real if it is then the clerk will weigh the ring the price that the clerk offer you is determine by the weight of the ring, the clerk will quote you a price if everything is right, and yes they will take the ring and give you the cash and a receipt for your proof you must keep the receipt in order for you to get your ring out i have done this a lot that's why I know what they are going to do I bought two nice rings from a pawn shop just to pawn back if I need extra money. You will get your ring back when you pay the money back that you got for pawning the ring and by doing so before your 90 days run out or you can pay the little interest that is added each month until you have all the money to get it out and also have that receipt and they will give you back your ring in the shape it was when you bought it in.

I just had to do this.

Depending on where you live, it may not be a good idea to scope out the pawn brokers - they will do everything hey can to get the least amount for it, that's their business.

For me, after 6 months of failed auctions and ads for it on Ebay/MySpace, I found a jewelry store in the yellow pages (a big named one) that buys jewelry. While they will low-ball you on the value (I payed about $4000 for this dumb thing) and I got about $500 for it. It sucks, but it's better than nothing or hanging on to something I wanted to get rid of.

Hope it helps

Start with a reputable jewler and get it apprased. Know what it's worth. pawning it without a reciept is going to be a hassle; they are going to assume it's stolen and possibly check with the police to see if it's on a report; something to consider if you aren't sure where it came from. Probably get about 1/10th what it's appraised at.

They will look at it and check to see if its reall gold and what kind of stone it is how many carts it is then they will make you a offer what they offer is no where the actual value of item you may want to try a few different places before selling as some will offer more money than others

at the pawnshop:
1. jewelries are checked if real or fake
2. you will be given the amount on how much the pawn is
3. if you agree to the amount, they will let you sign the written
contract with the jewelries' descriptions and the amount
4. then the amount and a copy of the contract is given to you

I've never done it before either...maybe take it to a jewelry store first to see if it's real! They might look @ at for free and tell you what it's worth...maybe? I wouldn't trust the pawn shop to say if it's real or not, but that's just me.
