Actually there seems to be no direct pattern. (Besides of course bloodline) but what makes them choose certain families to begin with is unknown. Despite poular oppinion though, it's not just the ignorants, or the crazies. Normal hardworking people have these experiences, only some of which are disprovable.

I'm pretty sure if you have about 50 cats and no friends then they pick you. It's all about the cat to friend ratio.

usually, if a family member has been abducted in the past, even say 1000 years ago, they usually keep abducting from that same bloodline.
