The cheapest would be Etihad Airways, they are also good, better than Gulf Air, Emirates Airlines & Qatar Airways. They don't do direct flights though, they go through Abu Dhabi. If you want direct flights, Gulf Air & Emirates Airlines are the ones suitable for you.

I think BA and virginatlantic are the cheapest ones for direct flights (a quick search resulted in BA 325, Virgin 362, Emirates 368). I you don't mind stopovers, Qatar Airways (255) and Air France (300) might be viable options. Qatar Airways offers short connection times in Doha.

I flew from Manchester a few years ago & went with Al Italia - they were really good - stopped off in Milan for an hour each way. Also, one of my friends got a flight with KLM & they were pretty cheap too.
Or - you could call your local Travel Agents & get them to do a search for you - then when you find out who they got the cheapest fare with - contact the airline direct & get their price without the agents commission!!

I just returned from Abu Dhabi on Qatar Airways with AIRMILES. They are quite good. My advice, go to Abu Dhabi airport so that there is no wait for immigration. Dubai's a NIGHTMARE!
