If the majority of affairs are by women (well researched!) then why is it men have the reputation for it?

ohiofirefughter42: Good point, apologies. The research was as part of a book I was writing some five years ago so i can't recallnow where I got it from but it was an aggregate over those bits of research I could find at the time. I recall that on average more women then men actually (admitted) to have affairs. And yes, to those of you that keep saying 'who are they having them with?' - very clever except for one thing - if you are in a relationship you can have an affair with somone otherwise single so the numbers are not equal. Hope that clarifies.

Because in times gone by it was accepted that wives stayed at home and looked after the kids and men had mistresses and that was just the way it is. Now women have decided whatever men can do they can do better and infrequently do! But men have had the reputation for being unfaithful for longer than women- mud sticks etc.

Certain men are driven and chronic cheaters that is true. Men are required by society norms to "initiate" the contact.
Woman how ever have many more opportunities. They can go out and "know" that they will get lucky. They are the ones that are approached and propositioned and merely need to say yes.

They are continually judging the relationship emotionally and need constant reassurance that they are desirable. Affairs fit the bill to fill the need of being desirable when they feel the relationship is not what it should be.
In surveys about sex, women are more apt to lie or under estimate their affairs while men will generally overestimate. This is due to societies values of loose women and lucky men.
because of the discrepancies on how each sex is prone to slant their answers I would question any "researched results". How ever I do believe it is easier for women when they can choose who and when.

Yes they found out 1 in 4 children call the wrong person dad so it shows women are more deceitful. I think men have affairs when there is something wrong in the relationship women are just sneaky

Who are these women having affairs with? The men who get caught are the ones who don't care, if the get caught. People cheat for different reasons and it's hardly ever because of sex.

Take 2 to tango. Women have more excuses and alternate names for affairs than men do. Besides, men find it pointless to argue who started affairs.

Because society has made men out to be horny, sex-addicts. Therefore, we assume that they are the ones who have the affairs because we think that their sexual urges will make them completely forget about their wives and go off with the first young thing in a skirt.

on statistics it was suggested recently that approx 64% of child abuse is done by women, yet again men are seen as the bad guys in all this.
