i think you should get bigger ram. Its like you have a 1000hp engine and a tiny gearbox, so your processor isn't doing what it can do.......try getting 2x512mb and then see the performance....

A slow startup means that you have installed many softwares and many of them are opened( automatically) whenyou start your computer . try this ( its safe ):
1. click start button . Then click RUN . a screen will appear , containing a blank .
2. In the blank write msconfig . another screen will appear containing many tabs on top .
3. the last tab will be startup . click on it .
4. now you will see many checked names . UNCHECK SOME OF THE NAMES BUT SEE TO IT THAT YOU DO NOT UNCHECK ANY SYSTEM SOFTWARE .
TIP::::::::::::: THOSE NAMES WHICH YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND ARE SYSTEM NAMES .
5.After unchecking click ok . restart your pc . after restart a pop up will appear on your screen ,click " do not show on start up " checkbox and click ok .
the first time you restart your pc u may not see any change but next time you can easily make out the change in your pc speed .
You must increase your ram to atleast 512 mb to properly utilize your pc as your processor clock speed is very high .
Also ,the speed of the ram does matter you must go for a ram having a speed of atleast 533ns ( this depends on your chipset/motherboard , hence ,you must contact the manufacturers before upgrading your ram ) .

It depends on what part of your computer is slow? the cpu or the internet speed? if its the processes, find out what system services is loaded. You can actually disable those user services not system services that may slow down your system. You can even set it to load manually. Here is how, on XP and Vista
1.Right click My computer and then click Manage.
2.On the left side, look for Services and Applications
3. Click Services
4. In the middle pane, it shows all the services. look for the automatic services. To edit, right click and click properties. Edit "Startup Type" as you would like it to start. Automatic, Manual or Disable
(Be sure you check your system resources to see which services may be slowing you down)
Go to Task Manager and see each process. Find the ones that use alot of Memory e.g. mcshield.exe =14,780k but don't disable your antivirus..its just an example.

You have a fast PC and a huge hard disk... 215MB RAM is just not enough to get the maxiumum out of it...try upgrading the RAM to atleast 512MB...and if you can afford...go for 1GB instead...that's the only way out of your problem.

oh god. limewire. *sigh* in case you acquire from limewire you're exceedingly much effective to get a virulent disease. your pc is probable completely screwed up now. i propose deleting limewire to boot because of the fact the folder the place you saved each and all the archives you downloaded. that should no longer help adequate nevertheless... perhaps use norton or macafee to do a virulent disease examine and spot if that facilitates... in case you do no longer already have them nevertheless this is gonna value some money.

With 3.6 Ghz, I am surprise you only have 256mb of memory. Yep, you definitely need to install more memory or RAM.
Here is a link for you to start browsing for new memory:

Hope this helps!
