We do, although it's stopped with the next generation.

Grandma - Margaret May
Aunt - Margaret May
Cousin - Margaret Brenda
Cousin - Margaret Judith
Me - Margaret Elizabeth

Obviously, none of us went by Margaret, that would have been confusing but it is our real name.

I am appealing to my nieces and nephews that when one of them starts reproducing (I can't otherwise I would have) to include the name in their childrens' names. We can't let it die.

I don't understand why people choose to use the same name as a first name over and over. Why not make sense and give each kid a different first name and the same middle name. Much less confusing. If you're not gonna all gonna call each other 'margaret' why have it as your first name?

Yes it has always been a requisite in my family that the first born son of the first born son etc Is called Albert John. Until 15 years ago we had five generations alive at the same time with the name.

No. But you gave me a very good idea. I will start a name run in my family if I get married some day. My daughter's middle name is Catherine (after the Russian queen, Catherine The Great :) haha). I think it will be good to name all the girls, if there will be any, with this middle name from now on.

Yes. My great grandmother was Maria Jane. My grandmother is Mary Jane (she was named before it was slang for marijuana!) My mother is Nancy Jane. I am Amanda Jane. It is the firstborn daughter who gets the middle name Jane...someday there may be a Hannah Jane to carry on the tradition.

Also my grandmother named a man named William...and two of her sisters married men named William too. And they all go by Bill! It can get confusing to ask for Bill at family reunions. :-)

I think handing down family names is honorable indeed..Hope yours carries on for you..=)My middle name is a pass down.."Marie"
but it has stopped with this generation as none of my Brothers named their girls that..I've never had children either..(born infertile)
so I think its at an end.
