I've been able to imagine floating in the dark, feeling only an empty, yet filling, sensation inside me, as if the darkness was creating an abyss inside me, and my outsides were just barely containing the darkness, the nothingness.

Most definitely. In my drinking days, I got so blind lit on the rum and cokes that the next morning I wished like hell I didn't exist. Going to KISS concerts was like a sonic blast that made me deaf, dumb, and blind. The rum and cokes served the purpose of helping me not to feel anything afterwards.

I was once able to imagine that, to truly see what it would be like to not feel, to be gone and it was a scary feeling, I didn't like it. I've never been able to imagine it since, though and I really don't want to feel that again.

If one can think along those lines when they are no more in this world, exists on another plane.
Only the living think not to exist some day..... the dead, do not care because they do not think to have existed at once.......
That is why the living fear death....
