My dad has been a firefighter for 25 years he loves his job, but is getting close to retirement age now and is looking forward to a quieter life, he's seen some terrible things over the years and he certainly won't miss that part of the job.
My mum runs a dry cleaning business and she is selling up to retire, I'm gutted as she does all my dry cleaning free of charge.

Both of my parents are retired. My mom and dad both worked two jobs each so they could provide for the six kids. But mom was a seamtress as well as a telephone operator. Dad he worked as a machinst and a laundramat. The machine shop went bankrupt and he landed a job with the government as a machinst. Over the years he worked his way up the ladder and actaully was able to quit the laundramat job. And my mom was able to give up the seamtress job. My dad was high ranking civilian and got good money. He retired at least bout 17 years ago,

My mum looked after the home and us kids, my Dad had various jobs including being a miner, council worker and his last job was a radio controller for Welsh Water. I don't think he felt particularly fulfilled in these jobs although he really missed the company and friendship when he retired. My Mum stayed at home as she says most women were expected to in those days and my Dad didn't want her to work, he thought he should be the provider. I do think my Mum was happy although I also think she feels deep down maybe she has missed out a little. It seems to have worked well for them anyhow as they have brought up four kids and have been married for 67 years now. I'm very proud of them both and am extremely grateful for everything they've done for me and my kids!!

My mum part-owned and operated a Dry cleaning business.....loved it, hard work and long hours I seem to recall. Now retired.
Dad worked in a factory. Made the most of it I suppose. Was there for 25 odd years, had a nasty accident and lost an index finger, Took redundancy about 8 years ago and is now living in retirement (I think) enjoying life.

Dad was in the navy till he met mum. They both worked in the paper mills in Lancashire. After having the five of us they had to work at different times from each other so they could take care of us. Dad worked for Leyland Daff, he was bored stupid and Mum worked nights as a nurse. They never saw each other and it ruined our childhood. They both retired last year. Mum ended up on oxygen 24 hours a day and Dad had two strokes, makes you wonder what its all about.

My dad was an electrician, plus he had two other part-time jobs (all three of us kids needed braces, college, etc). No, I don't think he enjoyed any of them. He worked way too hard and hardly ever got to just enjoy life.
