One side of my basement is my woodworking shop, the other my wife's quilt making shop, we also have storage places. We clean all the time. I have cleaned once real good and spray painted all the rafters white, it gives of better light and it looks cleaner.
We're always cleaning with a fifteen gallon type garage vac, it woks well for the type of junk we have but, we always spray with "Raid" in and around the washer, the sink, places where it's damp or, dark.

RE:
How do you get rid of spiders and other common bugs found in basements?
So I just moved into my first home and forgot from my parent's home how many bugs are in the basement. I am finding spiders of course and other bugs.
So my questions is how do you get rid of these bugs ON YOUR OWN?
It is not a big problem where I have to get a bug exterminator involved, so...

You can purchase 'bug bombs' at the local hardware store. Just read the instructions. I would keep any pets away from that area for a while.
I use them about once a year in a crawl space to eliminate the spiders.

The only thing i can think of is using a bug bomb ok. The bad thing about it is that it will take 1-3hours to air out so since you have animals that wouldnt be a good thing but you can go to any store like kmart or target and and see what you can used to rid of your bug issue

As long as there is a way to seal off the room from
other parts of the house. You can set a couple of
cans of bug foggers.Read the Mfgrs.instructions on the can for the room size. Cover or rinse items with water and soap that will be handled by members of your household later. If you have an A/C duct I would cover the opening to seal it off from other parts of the house.

You don't need to have a "big" problem to get an exterminator involved. We have always had an exterminator service that treats the interior and exterior of our home quarterly. Results....no matter where we have lived....no bugs of any kind ever.

Osage oranges (or mock oranges) work well. I place them around my basement and the spoders disappear! They can't stand the smell the fruit puts off. :) Good luck!

Kill all the Male spiders and the females will die thus killing all the spiders, with Ants you just need to find the colony and kill the queen. same with wasps and bees
