My son is a great athelete and tackles decently but I want him to be a solid tackler. From leverage, explosion, wrapping up, etc.

First, when tackling.

If they tackle from the side you always want you kid to keep his head on the front of the opponent, so that the side of their head will be along the oppenents chest and the shoulder driving into the side of the opposing player.

when they make initial contact you want them to drive their hands up and explode through the tackle so they can take the player off balance.

Last, make sure your kid never leaves his feet, so he keeps the most power possible, and then just keep the feet moving once contact is made and to not stop until the tackle is complete.

A common misconception about tackling is that you "go for the legs" but to become a real good tackler you have to tell your son to go right for the midsection. A person cannot go anywhere without their midsection. It is effective (ie the chicago bears)

This is going to sound really obvious but be supportive and cheer him on. When athletes are given positive praise they compete better (ie daniel gibson of the clevland cavaliers)

FOr explosion you just have to tell your son to do a little something I call "lunges" for lunges you bend over on one knee and move forward. You son's hamstrings and calfs will get nice and strong which will make him run a lot faster and he'll have more acceleration. (ie kobe bryant)

Then show him some film of the great solid tacklers of our time (ie mike singeltary, london flecther, LT, lance briggs, Demeco ryans) but don't let him watch stuf like ray lewis and roy williams because those guys go for the big shots and not exactly a consistant tackle.

tackling 101

-always aim for the legs(easiest spot for a person to fall down)
-never let the person go
-dont go for the facemask
-catch the person offguard and then randomly tackle him
