Finding plus-size stuff is a major pain! What you might do is find a good tailor -- try your drycleaner for recommendations, or an upscale department store. Then, together, choose a pattern from the sewing section and choose fabric. With a tailor, you can add special details and make even a simple dress quite elegant. Vogue Patterns might be a good place to start.

The place you bought your wedding dress may be able to re-work a bridesmaid dress for your mother, too. Choose a completely different style, cut off some length and leave off the frou-frou, and it might work.

There are quite a few online retailers that do plus size formal dresses, that are elegant but not frumpy.

I've made a squidoo lens all about Plus Size Prom dresses but there are also links on there to stores that do all types of plus size formal clothing and evening wear, for all ages.

For example plussizebridal.com, kiyonna and others.

Hope you find it of some help.

Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding too.
