As G and Bubbles have said, there are types of clowns with black and white, with just a little orange or none at all. You can look through this link for some photos of other possible species: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/clownfis.htm
It's also possible that it wasn't a clownfish, but some type of damsel which is a related fish. See the three stripe and four stripe damsels in this link: http://www.marinedepotlive.com/fish--damsels.html

The Red and Black Clownfish, also known as the Black Anemonefish, Red and Black Anemonefish, or the Cinnamon Clownfish, has a reddish-brown base color with a white stripe behind the eyes, and a dark area, which may vary in dimension, on the side. Orange dominates the dorsal, caudal, and pectoral fins, as well as the face. Tank bred specimens are currently available for purchase.
A 30 gallon or larger aquarium that has no other clownfish is desirable. It is semi-aggressive towards other clownfish and passive tank mates. An anemone host such as Bubble Tip (Entacmaea quadricolor) or Leathery (Heteractis crispa) is preferred, but not required.
Tank raised clownfish are very hardy and durable fish making them a perfect addition for the novice or seasoned aquarist. If introduced to the aquarium at the same time, many varieties of tank raised clowns can be maintained together in the aquarium.
The Red and Black Clownfish diet consists of meaty items as well as herbivore preparations.

By normal fish tank you mean there was nothing in the tank to give it away that it was salt water? Most fish stores these days have closed systems and use regular aquarium gravel so it adds to the color of the tanks. They are still salt water. Tomato clowns and Clarkki, Allardi clowns there are a number of different kinds and they come in many sizes. Clowns do not need anemone to survive especially in an aquarium setting. I raise allardi's and none of them use the anemone in the tank.
