Hi..
I'm asking this out of my interest, but also for my girlfriend.
We are both 18, and just last week lost our virginity together. We have had sex twice, but plan to do not do so for a long time again. There are a couple of issues/questions I have and I appreciate any answers.

1) Does this count as sexually active, hence requiring a pap smear or visit to doctor ?
and
2) We will not obviously alert her parents to what we have been up to, but if she does need to visit doctor for a check up as part of an annual check up, how might she do so without needing to worry about her folks finding out ?

Thanks

Your girlfriend should get a pap smear about 1 year after getting her period or after being sexual active. And yes, after having sex means you both are sexually active.
And a clinic or a doctor can not give away a patients information without the permeation of the patient. So don't worry and go get checked out.

Good luck =)

1) Does this count as sexually active, hence requiring a pap smear or visit to doctor ? Sexually active, yes. Best to see a doc to educate yourself on the risks of pregnancy, std and to pick out an effective contraceptive. She should do pap smears once a year or so.
and
2) We will not obviously alert her parents to what we have been up to, but if she does need to visit doctor for a check up as part of an annual check up, how might she do so without needing to worry about her folks finding out ? The docs won't tell them. That'll violate the doctor/patient confidentiality agreement. Good luck!

1. Yes this would be counted as sexually active but because of her age she should be getting ready to have a pap smear any way because some drs in the U.S. (just using this as an example in case you are in a different country) use 18 as the time for a young lady to get her pap smear whether she is sexually active or not (depending on which comes first)

2. In many parts of the U.S. (again just using this as an example) young ladies become adults at 18 years old so in that case the dr would not tell her parents unless she gave permission

If you had intercourse, then yes... she is has been sexually active. And at 18 and after having been active, she does need a pap smear.

I dont know what the laws are there about a doc having to inform her parents or not. Either way, its a medical thing that she needs to have done. I'd like to believe that at 18 a doc wouldnt tell her parents. You could try Planned ParentHood and see if they know of any clinics that would offer a pap without telling her parents.

By the way, really responsible question of you to ask.

That counts, and you need to start having Pap smears. Theoretically, your privacy is protected, but who's paying the bill? If it's your parents' insurance, it'll be on the bill. You might consider getting the Pap at the local health department instead of at your usual doctor's office, or paying for the visit out of your own funds to avoid the paper trail.

If you lost your virginity that means you are sexually active.

If she is not under her parents insurance they do not need to know.

She can always say its time for her annual pap, make some excuse about an irregular period or something.

She should go to Planned Parenthood. If she doesn't have insurance. They keep eveything quiet there. You can both go there. And talk about birth control. Please take care of each other.

Good Luck!
