There is no legal definition of what constitutes a 'white' color in golds. So, you can alloy with anything. Just keep it 75% gold. Copper is not used very much in white gold as it adds it’s own “color.” Usual white gold alloys are made with nickel, palladium, platinum. These metals are strong gold whiteners. Silver and zinc are considered moderate whiteners. And, all the other metals have a weak whitening effect.

How important is the "white" color to you? If you don’t mind some color, a small amount of copper will increase the workability and ductility for making studded jewelry. But if true "white" is required, then alloy with palladium it is more costly but also very ductile.
