The Virgin Queen Elizabeth (r.1558-1603) had a triumphant 45 year reign, securing the establishment of the Anglican Church and the security of an english speaking nation. Under Elizabeth, the English defeated the Spanish Armada in 1588 and secured for England a spot in the expansive Age of Colonialism.

1) the survival of the English language-

King Phillip of Spain believed that he had the better claim to the crown and if he had been King of England, the official language at the Court and all legal documents would have been in Spanish. In addition, the new lands in America would have been Spanish colonies, not English ones.

2) Traditions of the Royal Navy-

The defeat of the Spanish Armada by a much smaller English Navy paved the way for the future dominance of the Royal Navy and ensured the protection of merchant vessels of England so that she could reap the profits of trade. The Royal Navy has been the pre-eminent navy in the world for centuries until equalled during WWI and finally surpassed during WWII by the United States Navy, which learned many of its traditions from the Royal Navy.

3) English Lit-

How can any discussion of The Virgin Queen's legacy not include English literature and all you have to mention is one single name, William Shakespeare.

His works are classics not just in English, but in all languages and his plays are read and performed world-wide. His plays are also made into movies and re-made and are the basis and inspiration for new plays and new movies today.

I would never suggest someone go to Wikipedia as you can never trust the content, as everyone and anyone can post, edit, and change any entry at any time. I would suggest that to learn more about Elizabeth I, that you go to the best source, the British Govt.
