focus in on the person who is talking, that usually helps. and if you didnt understand something, ask if they may repeat what you missed out on.

You just gotta stop thinking about other stuff and focus on that one thing you trying to listen to for example if you like to talk while someone else is talking try not talking and letting the person who is trying to talk talk. Well that's my example but you probably have a different situation, but most important focus on that one thing you are trying to focus in the first place like what your trying to listen to.

I met a psych/ doc once accompanying a young girl in an office session. I learn from her doc to really listen to each and every sound, that comes out of her mouth intensely. He told me they had much training in med school to do this. I learned from him you can really listen and hear much more thru even the slightest nuances, This includes body langage.

im a very bad listener too. i cant crack the problem.
Best thing for me is to try not to be distracted by other things going on. find something in their voice or what they are saying that you can concentrate on for interest value, and try your best to ignore other things.
might help to try and imagine exactly what the person is saying, like they are telling you a proper story, just to get it into your head better.
Also, be aware when other people speak and try hard to focus your attention.
Try it and tell me if it really works! i find it hard to concentrate :)

Focus intently and strictly on the person who's talking to you. Cut yourself off from all nearby distractions, such as TV or other people. If the person is in the same room as you, maintain good eye contact. Good Luck!

Focus, be interested (even if the conversation isn't) and engage! Try to say something, express your opinion and ask question, this way you're hooked into the conversation.

the biggest tip i can give you is to talk to people who are interesting to you...most people just ramble on about stuff that causes us to wonder in the conversation and not listen well...bring up a topic that is interesting and see where it goes...could be you are just around boring people...
