Take the money you would have spent on a rental car and buy one of those "pay as you go" cellular phones that works in the states your traveling to. Then get a good national road service plan from AAA or one Honda recommends etc. Try calling the toll free number with your new cell phone before you leave on the trip to make sure you'll be able to call them 24 hours a day and get on road service if your car breaks down. Now get a nice heavy duty box or plastic leak proof container to put your emergency road supplies into in your trunk. You should bring an empty antifreeze type one gallon jug or two with you, one filled with water and the other can be used for an emergency gas container. Buy a reflective emergency road breakdown triangle like the truckers have to put behind your car on the highway if you break down. Make sure to have a good flashlight and maps for where your traveling so you'll be able to direct the tow truck to your location. Make sure your tires have the correct air pressure including the spare tire. Make sure you have the car jack and lug wrench to change a flat tire because anyone will need it if you have to change a tire on the highway.

Yes Honda's are some of the most reliable cars in the world if you have kept it maintained and its in good condition there is no reason it shouldnt. Its like everything else mechanical the is always a chance it could break down but it could do that also driving a couple of blocks from your house. Take it and dont worry about it.

Unless you know of a problem the car may have, there will be no trouble with a 3 hour trip. You could drive across the country with that car. You also probably have a cell phone right?

When in doubt, rent a car. I understand your concerns. I drive a 92 Acura Integra in great shape - no problems, etc. But I don't take it anywhere that far because I am partly concerned that it will develop more expensive problems (transmission trouble, etc) and just to extend its life in general.

I would rent a car, it's a lot less stress on you if you are worried about your car making it. Plus if you are right you will have at least a huge towing bill in addition to whatever repairs you may have. Good luck!

No it will not. Here's the official chart:

'89 Accord in good condition - 1 hour trip
'89 Accord in great condition - 2 hour trip
'89 Accord in exceptional condition - 3 hour trip.

As you can see, your car can make only 2 hour trip.

But your question is definitely among some "strange" ones...
